US Players treated unfairly

I really like the real time score keeping. I do not like the fact that some of the professional players did not make it to the tournamnet on time. That seems to be very un"Professional" Our American players should have recieved a bye if those guys cannot be at a tournamnet on time, instead, they put off the american players until the next day so that those who did not make it on time can still play. If that would have been an american that did not make it on time , I am very sure they would have had to forfeit. I also do not agree with them seperating players from other countries so they did not have to play each other. I thought this was the "US" OPEN .

Could have sworn I just read somewhere that at least one American didn't even ENTER before the deadline, never mind turn up on time.......and still got his late entry accepted and was then entered in the already completed draw

If you are talking about the guys who played on The Eurotour event they were given permission to miss the first day even before the draw was made. Without that permission they would not even have entered as they knew the travel time would have made it near impossible.

Why the apparent unecessary desire to make this into a nationalistic argument? The one day's grace aspect is surely just about guys who couldn't enter unless they had this small concession to their travel difficulties, whatever their nationality. I agree with you on the draw separation argument though.

The Most Prestigeous Event in the WORLD?

Your opinion is noted as well as all the other posters (maybe 12 of them that were willing to post) about the "un-fairness" to the USA players by Barry's decision to SEED players with 8 or more representatives from a country. I am sure there are maybe 100 lukers, (maybe more) that dislike the way this tournament is being 'catered to' to Non-USA residents.

Check it out.. all of TEAMS did not get byes, they were just put into different brackes separated so that they won't play against each in the first or second round.

Exceptions were probably the reason the charts took so long to be filled out.
Players signing up late are always a problem. But, there are exceptions every year.

the United States 9 Ball Open is/and has been for more than 20 years, an international event. Many times Barry has made exceptions for the European palyers arriving late and Russian players also. This is nothing new.

Barry is the Man when it comes to the US Open and all he wants is the chance for anyone that want to play to be able to play.

I am glad he seeded the top 32 with past winners and runner ups, IMO they really deserve it.

Even Earl got a 'Bye' in the first round... oh... yeah.. he's won this 5 times.

can you elaborate on who you heard this was?

The European players coming from the Eurotour were given a day to get over here from Europe because of a scheduling conflict.

But there were US Players who also got in late.

One former champion called during the players meeting and entered the tourney. Then he said he couldn't play his first match til Monday. Tony Robles was allowed to enter the event on Sunday and took one of the byes.

Mike

Thanks Mike. Tony was the one I was referring to having read about KtownD.

Can certainly understand Barry wanting as many participants as possible.

Looking forward to a great event, that's all.

Good job on the scoring guys. Thanks:smile:

Tony was allowed in because Q-Master Billiards unfortunately gave him the wrong information on the tournament and player meeting start time. Other players were also given this incorrect information. In fact, I think Santos actually showed up and couldn't play at all b/c he arrived late Sunday thinking that the tourney didn't start until Sunday evening ...

Move along folks, nothing to see here.

I don't see a "bye" for Tony Robles. He played CJ Wiley in the first round and then Jonathan Pinegar.

I think he meant that Tony took over for one of the positions that was initially a 'bye', not that Tony received a bye. Most likely, CJ Wiley got a bye, but then Tony was entered in, and was drawn to face Wiley.

Thanks for the clarification.

James,

I know it is really no consolation but Shannon said you played great in the match today. Jumped and cut the ball down the rail and followed it up with a BR. He was impressed with your play and felt fortunate to come away with a win. GL on the left side.
