Looks interesting. Seems as if it would be a good alternative the other leagues. I think Mark said 75% of the matches go hill/hill.

From what I understand they are looking for LO's. Could be a good opportunity for someone that wants to get involved as a LO or those that always complain about them. Now is the chance to get in at the beginning.

I inquired, they are looking for managing LO's, not owner LO's. This is not a franchise ownership deal like the APA. I'm sure it's a great opportunity for the right people. If someone were to start up a league in my area I would definitely try it out.

We currently have city league, VNEA league, ISPA league, and dual sanctioned leagues. You can pretty much play any night of the week. I would need to give players a reason to switch.

The scoresheet example and stats are kept the same as the BCA League system http://www.leaguesys.net I use it for my BCA League and there are tons of different ways to run your leagues, calculate stats and show reports for your players.

In a nut shell, USAPL is a nationally handicapped league system. 1 on 1 match play. Free protedcted territory and the opportunity to make a 'real living' from pool.

It will support pro pool from the amateur side.

It is a proven and establish system - over 1.7 million matches and over 70% go hill-hill. (the system really restricts the ability to sandbag)

I was listening when he was talking at the National BB Reno , i know i probably don't have this exactly right but part of the monies collected will go into a fund to put on professional pool tournaments.

They want to support professional pool.

The scoring system they recommend is interesting and could be used in any league. Their target market though is current APA leagues. Otherwise said, they take money out of the league & so does the operator (to make a real living, like APA).

I'm used to running leagues with 100% payback plus added money. That is not the model here. If you are used to APA then the switch is simple moneywise. It's a much harder sell if your leagues are paying back 100% (or close) now.

We appreciate all the comments about USAPL.

We will put up some info for those who are interested.

This league is a national system. Everyone uses the same handicapping and scoring systems. it is 1 on 1 match play.

It is web based - through Leaguesys - and we have over 1.7 million matches and over 70% go hill-hill.

This is way better than any other system out there.

It is designed to pay out 50% on the local level - which is more than any other national system. In additioin we will be adding money to local and state events. We also put $.50 per week per player to promote professional pool.

I feel that pool needs both amateur and pro level players. This system will create that atmosphere.

Honestly do we need another Pool League? Here in the Valley of the Sun we got BACPL, APA, ACS, TAP, Arizona Pool League, and when I look at the last Pool Newspaper they had like 8 different Pool League listed you could join, or play in here in Arizona.

I honestly think Pool as a sport would be better operating under One Sanctioning Body, with ONE SET of Rules, like Football, Golf, Tennis, Basketball, Hockey, etc.

Too me it seems like in Pool there are a bunch of different groups, or operators who all want to be the Big Fish in their own little pond. Recall long ago someone sawing something about strength in numbers.

The National Football league was the brain storm of putting the old AFL, and NFL together. Now they are even involved at Youth Flag Football level with NFL Affiliation, and the NFL is a very heathy, and prosperous organization. How many watch the Super Bowl?

NASCAR has about most all of Auto/Truck Motor Sports in the NASCAR Camp, and is another very heathy organization.

USAPL more details from experience

The USA Pool League is a new division of CSI and is designed to give players an opportunity at a better structured system and at the same time promotes the sport in a wider context.

Currently there are approximately a dozen USAPL leagues that have started around the country from NV to NY. I've personally been part of the test market here in Las Vegas for 18 months and come from 20 years of playing in honestly every major league system out there but the VNEA...sorry just never did.

Long before I started working with CSI, I came to appreciate the purist call pocket type of format of the BCAPL, the generally higher level of play, which I still do. Now with the USAPL, what I enjoy is that I simply love match play. The USAPL also allowed players to play to their real ability at that moment, whether they are beginners, intermediate or advanced and will allow them to win and lose honestly. Yes no system is utopian, but the USAPL come real close.

The handicaps range from 50-125 in most cases and is based on points, 14to the winner of a game and ball count to those who do not win a specific game. The players play to their handicap. If both players are within one game of being to their handicap, they are both on the hill. The winner of the match is in that case determined by the winner of that game. That fact is very relevant because of the high amount of hill-hill matches we've seen statistically. That means the handicapping is working.

Only genuinely missed shots of truly makable shots are recorded. There is much less liklihood of sandbagging. How the handicaps fluctuate are based on more than win / loss, but also how much based on the players existing handicap. So, for instance my handicap can change a bit here and there on a weekly basis. One week I might be a 72, the next a 75, the next a 68...depends on how badly I beat my previous opponant or how badly they beat me. Much truer handicap system and all electronically web based for everyone to easily track all over the country.

*** Also there are plans to update and revamp the USAPL site...we've just all had much on our plates since the holidays, but after the BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships those additional long range projects will take center stage.
