Useful tip on chalk holders

If you are a chalk “painter” and not a “borer”, you may find this useful, in particular for chalk like Taom, which might be shorter than a typical Masters cube.

As you can see, the Taom chalk is lower than the surface of the holder. Makes it hard to “paint” the edges of the tip.

Put a few quarters under the chalk to bring it up level with the holder.

And yes, my square holder adequately holds my V10 round chalk.

I realize that in the grand scheme of pool this hack is pretty benign, but maybe someone will find it useful.

Been doing this (adding quarters) for years with my square chalk(s) when they get too low. Gets a lot more life out of them.

If it were Master's chalk, I wouldn't bother since it's so cheap (and I've also got boxes of it that I won in league raffles). But, I'm allergic to Master's chalk (it turns my bridge hand red and itches), so I use Russian Magic or Blue Diamond or Taom.

Also, when they are on their second life and short they tend to fall out. I just put 2-3 turns of masking tape around the bottom half of the chalk and it stays in place.

In the 4 table room in the small town where I grew up, each table had one chalk holder hanging from a string. When you needed to chalk your cue you would have to walk over to the chalk, it wasn't allowed to be on the rail as it is now. The Gent that owned the room ran a tight ship. Was thinking that the only way for Toams chalk to make into rooms would be to revert back to the stone ages in this very seance. I remember the Titanic sinking to. The tables would be a lot cleaner and the owners wouldn't have to clean up as much as they have to do now to maintain the equipment.

The local Legion I play at has 5 Valley tables and they have chalk hanging at each end of the table as they got tired of trying to fish loose chalk cubes out of the tables which cause jams in the ball return.

I actually designed a solution for that. Fits Taom and Predator. Has thick and thin spacers and a holder that has a hole [with a "plunger"] to get the whole contraption apart. Adjustable 3 magnet system to get the pull force just right. And caps for it all.

chalk holder also has a built in ball marker for use in a pinch.

Same here

What's the purpose of a chalk holder? Please don't say, "It holds your chalk." ;)
When I’m at the hall and I have my own personal chalk, rather than mess up my pants pocket I’ll use the holder where the chalk hangs outside my pockets. At home the chalk is on the rail.

But Dan, as experienced as I am sure you are, I know you already knew that.

I don't worry about losing my chalk because I just pick it up with my bridge hand after each shot and when I take a seat. I find it easier than putting a device in my pocket each time. To each his own!

I just put my chalk, usually Taom, on the edge of the table and it goes with me wherever I go.
Much like the cue.
Reason: I don't like chalk holders when the chalk starts wearing down because I am more, like you said, "a painter" and the edges on these holders forbid you to do that.
So I just got used to always carrying my chalk and cue to and away from the table.
