Using a personal chalk now in Covid times to avoid communally-handled ones?

For decades I've always "worn" a magnetically attached chalk (on my belt) because it's so handy, especially during Straight Pool runs -- saves reaching and searching -- but I definitely appreciate it now -- one less unsanitizable thing to handle when/if playing publicly now.

Still have to handle everything else -- mutually-used racks and balls, etc. No way around that, when playing at the same table with other folks.

I think it's a good idea.
And I was a hater of the personal chalk crowd!!!Lol

Not gonna make a beneficial difference.

Don't touch your face/mouth while playing. Wash hands a few times while playing and really good after. Don't think its a huge issue if any.

I've been using my own personal chalk for a couple of years now.

My whole household caught the virus the beginning of May. My roommate had it really bad with flu & pneumonia and ended up in hospital for 8 days. We have all since recovered and been cleared, so I believe our chances of getting it again are less than .09%.

Unless a vaccine comes along FAST anyone besides a hermit in Maine or similar is going to get this thing. I almost feel like getting it over with now but Im going to wait a lil longer to see how the vaccine is coming.

Carry some sanitizing wipes and wipe the equipment (and rails, and cloth?) down once before you play.

Good advice. But I always forget not to touch my face - anybody got a cure for that?

I’ve put my chalk on the rail all my life....that’s going to change now.

And Simonis is recommending spraying the cloth (set at mist) with at least 70% alcohol
mixture....spray and wait a few minutes...balls and triangle also.
Slip-on rest head makes a lot of sense also.
I will carry my own soap and sanitizer,
Spray a chair and claim it as yours.

Now you can even gamble with a leper

I’ve always kept mine in my pocket. It’s part of my pre shot routine to reach in my pocket for it.

Agree. Keep small bottle of hand sanitizer with you. Habitual nose pickers might be in trouble though!

I have used a leather chalk pouch which is just so handy.
The brand I use is Peradon from England. The leather is
great and the chalk drops in easily and is held securely.
This brand costs more than others but it’s really worth it.

Pocket chalker habit developed from when I'd play in seedy bars that never had decent chalk.

The only time I use my personal chalk is when the table chalk is drilled halfway to China, I hate blue chalk on my ferrule. That kinda begs the question, why do we use blue chalk on green cloth??? I have always wondered that and always forgot to ask why.

Lastly Im going to continue doing things after C-19 that I did before C-19 and hope that my immunity system functions how it was designed to. Im not sure a lot of anti bacterial stuff is good for you, we need bacteria to build immunity, dont we????

We also need bacteria for beer making, bread making, and other stuff.

It was decided long ago that it was desirable for the presence of chalk -- needing removal (on the then-predominant green felt) -- should announce itself, and thereby never be overlooked during table cleaning sessions. Green on green wouldn't be effective in this respect.
