Using Brass joints on Ash cues

Why are all ash cues (snooker) cues have brass joints? Is there a specific reason because of the wood? I have ash that I want a regular cue made out of, shaft and butt. Can a wood to wood jt be done? Mine would consist of a metal pin and insert though. Give me your knowledge so I may understand more.

Ash is a more porous, splintery wood. Splitting is easier as the only reason I could see.

I don't know for sure, but I'm going to suggest that it's just traditional to use a brass joint on those cues. You can probably do a wood to wood joint if you wanted.

i think for snooker since the balls are so light, the cues are made to be much harder hitting, otherwise you wouldn't feel much when hitting the ball. hence the brass ferrule and joint. i've seen some snooker cues with wood to wood joints, but it's not common.
