Using Foam with Cyno

Hopefully someone that uses cyno for a finish can help me. Where can I get the type of foam that is used to spread cyno when using it as a finish? I have tried all kinds and all but one has melted onto the cue almost imediately. I had a piece of foam strip left over from some project and I tried it and it worked awesome, but I can't find the same type at any of the stores (Homedepot, Lowes, Ace, etc.) If anyone has a source, could you PM please, I have tried seat cushion stuff, etc. with bad results

Sally's Beauty supply is where one customer told me he gets some little spreaders. I have not seen what he is using.
 
Not sure on the foam sourcing question. However I used to do a lot of cyano finishes back in the day and I always used the back of a piece of wet /dry sandpaper, folded over, to spread my cyano.
 
my way

i use lathe on slowest speed, rubber glove, paper towel folded into about 1/2 inch square. sg in left hand, papertowel in gloved right hand, turn on lathe, put papertowel on cue then drip and move down the length of cue. then quickly get paper towel and glove off hand before it burns.

Yeah I have used the same method and have burnt my fingertips enough..:( The cyno seems to seep thru too easily, but the foam that I used that worked well didn't melt or seep thru, and more of the cyno stayed on the cue, not absorbed into the towel. Just wish I knew what type it was. It looks very similar to the foam brushes, but I don't want to buy 100's of brushes.

Just saying, if you have used the foam before, then there are tons of foam wedges on e bay should be easy to locate a company that is willing to sale you 10.000 of them.

I am tired of burning my fingers to. I haven't used foam to apply CA.

The only thing I have found that works good on applying CA is a blue shop paper towel.

Hi,

When I use CA to blend a repair I found the the paper towels without a lint factor works best for me.

We call them hard towels. They are standard C Fold commercial hand towel for restrarunte washrooms.

I have been using an expired debit card. Left over finish wipes right off and your good for the next run

Guess that's the only good way to get my money back! Lol

I"ve been using the BLUE shop towels for years now. Cut them into 1 1/2" strips
fold over a few times and apply a few drops of CA to the towel and wipe on with the cue NOT turning. Amazing how little CA it takes to seal the wood, even purple heart can be sealed with a few applications.

If so, I'll pick ome up tonight and try them tomorrow and report back.

man, i could have used that method a lot when i was married, my ex had many credit cards that had been cut in half !!!!!!!!!
 
Has anyone tried silicone as a spreader? Also, I haven't tried it...but the odorless cyano states it's foam safe.
 
Have any of you guys tried spreading the CA with playing cards? You can get them pretty cheap and probably use both sides of each card.

Thanks for the idea, plus you can trim off the wet edge and use the same card until it gets too short.

Not only that, but Mek will melt any plastic rings, plastic / polyester joint collars, epoxy, etc.. Not for use on cues IMO.
