USPS Tracking says “Visible Damage”

Any idea what this means and what I’m supposed to do about it?

Is it saying that the package is undeliverable, or it just taking note of damage?

You package is probably going to be delivered damaged. They might put it in a clear plastic bag depending on size. It would be hard to say that the thing you ordered will be in good shape, but i would expect it to be damaged.

Not sure with USPS but with Fedex, if the outer package appears damaged or if they have reason to believe the contents "may" have been damaged in transit...they would set aside for inspection w/o a delivery attempt. If it passes inspection, they'll simply repackage it and deliver it to the intended recipient.

It means that the package is damaged and that is the possibility of damage to the good inside the package. I’ve gotten one like that before but the goods inside the package were undamaged. Good luck

Certainly open it and inspect it while the delivery man is still there if at all possible, and make sure the delivery man documents the damage to the outside package as well as to any damage to the product enclosed. Also, take photos of the outside packaging where it is damaged as well as photos showing the damage to the contents, if there is any.

It just got here. Everything looked fine to me. Must be a new driver.
Usually it means damage visible on the packaging. Sometimes, if it’s one of those shipping bags, there was a visible tear on the bag. A box could mean a tear, or something was ripped, tape missing, etc. Good carriers will always make sure to note it with a scan.

Was the package completely fine? Bumped corners? Torn cardboard? Punctures?

Someone sent me a bunch of Priority flat-rate boxes filled with magazines. (That's the cheapest way to ship magazines.) I don't think any box arrived undamaged. For some of them, only the box arrived. Tracking never showed any problem. I guess they've upgraded the system. That was in about 2016.

The lesson learned is that Priority flat rate boxes have the strength of toilet paper and strapping tape is your friend.

The corners were a little bumped, but, overall, it looked like every other triangular tube I’ve ever received.

It was taped with “Express Mail” tape. I suppose it could have been done by USPS, assuming it was shipped untaped by the seller. (There was no other tape on it.)

As stated above take a picture, then video the opening of the package and inpection of the goods. If there is damage take it to the UPS Center that it was shipped from and ask for Center Manager for your zip code. If you get there before the drivers start their sign-offs for the evening the manager might come out, if not have the person in customer care center take a report and get an incident number.

Here at the Post Office, your package is revenue. Priority is a word to describe our employee break. Yes, we have bins of packages left over from Christmas. Tracking....hahahahahaha hilarious. (that'll be your footsteps in the snow.) It'll get there when it gets there. Did you call our 800 number? Take a photo of your package? Fragile sticker means we'll launch it off the back wall and into the outgoing bin. We found the drugs you shipped and we smoked them. Hey, can you go to the next window...I'm on break. Oh what's this? A package to Richard Black in Texas? Insured..hahaha.

I have abandoned USPS for FEd EX- I just cannot deal with USPS anymore- surcharges, lack of true tracking, delays, etc. This week alone I have received several pieces of "first class" mail that has other people's address - no more!
