Presumably starting a business and trying to compete in someone else's market solely (you say) because he spited you is NOT "juvenile" in your eyes?

I didnt want to compete, and I tried to tell him that. I've done cue repairs for a number of years, several years ago about 15 years ago. I just started getting back into it recently, only small stuff (Tips, ferrules, shaft cleaning) they are making it something it didnt need to be. I make more a year than I would ever make in cue repair, or making cues. But now I'm taking it personal when someone that I dont even know is talking to vendors that they arent to sell me a Porper Lathe.
I hate people that dont know me but have so much to say about me.

Hi,

We live in a free country, follow your dreams my friend.

IMO, Buy a 40" metal lathe, mount a back chuck and be done with it.

Good luck,

Rick

How is doing tips, ferrules, and cleaning NOT competing? Does that make any sense to you? Plus, you already had a lathe to do your tips/ferrules. Why did you need a Porper? I take that as you wanting to build as well as repairs.

Personal? I already explained to you when you first emailed me. This is my full time job. This is how I provide for my family. I take it personal....

So do it. Lincoln has a large population plenty of business for four people to have. You are correct I do have a lathe that will do exactly what I need for it to do but now I want a lathe that will build my cue. And yes I did try to get into City Tournament I made pretty good money in Beatrice. and since that was a really small tournament I can only imagine the money I could of made at city. I have a feeling that next will be a little different.
I'll get there. Just like everyone else I will have to hit all the bumps in the road and go through all obsticles that are in my way, but I will get there. and your attitude and Rory's gives me the fuel to drive me. People that say I cant do something and there reason is because it belongs to them only makes me want it more.

Screw cuemaking - with that attitude you should just be robbing banks. THOSE bastards will say you can't do it and their reason is "because it belongs to them" too!

Plus, it's easier and there's a lot more money in it...

Really, screw cuemaking - rob banks.

I hope everyone reading this gets the gauge of your character. You tried to bump me from the city tournament. Should I call your employer to get you bumped? I don't roll like that. Very uncool....

You should also let everyone know the real timeline. You tried to buy the Porper machine BEFORE anyone so-called "blackballed" you. You called Marshall (tournament director, for those of you following along) BEFORE anyone "blackballed" you. Rory and I were in Philly while all this was happening.

You've been cut off here, as well. Keep on posting and casting lies about this company and you will find it very difficult to buy from anyone...

Nope I asked Connie about it a week and half before you left for PA.

Its nice to see that is the only part you dispute.... So you were trying to buy a cue making lathe BEFORE anyone "blackballed" you and then you lied about on this forum. Very nice.

<~~I only lead him to the rope. I didn't make him put his head in it and jump...

randywhite30,
And the plot thickens....Oh, the webs we weave.
Just owning a lathe does not make you a CM. Nor does tip & ferrule replacement experience.
I don't know you but by the words you write and the attitude contained in those words.
Spite is a woman's greatest weapon yet this is your motivation.
In case you haven't yet realized it, you've just scored a 9.9 on the F-up meter.
Ryan has nothing to fear from your planned entry into cue-making. Neither does anyone else.
Ryan's position in this world is based on his talent and experience. He's one of the best.
From what I've read so far, he's been totally honest & upfront with you. You should have been the same.

If he has nothing to worry about why does he care what I am doing? If I suck at what I do he should get more business, right?

And as far as lying, I never did. I told him I was going to Beatrice to and I asked for pointers because I know hes been doing it for awhile and know alot more than I do about repairs.

As for the City tournament I asked Marshall if I could be the second please there.

As to the Porper Lathe I called Connie asked about buying a Lathe, she called Rory to ask about it, she returned my call and told me that Rory said no. I called Proper and talked to them, they told me that Rory has said not to sell a lathe to me or anyone in Lincoln. So it seems to me the only one thats trying to pull anything is the company, and Ryan.

I have no problems with anyone I did make up my mind that I will build cues. And I will start working the tournaments here in town and out of town.

I'm currently working on a few bars that have weekly tournaments, next year city tournament will go out for bid, and I will be bidding. I will also go for the Midwest tournament.

Ryan will no longer be the only one in town doing repairs.

Just one more thing about character. You started this pissing contest on a public forum. The problem I have I dropped to your level and allowed myself to get wrapped up in this. That was my fault.

You called out Rory and Muellers. Not the other way around. I only responded when I saw that. Another lie...

If Lincoln is such a big market, quit your day job and go head to head with me. Pretty easy to make that statement isn't it?

You should really listen to me. I am trying to save you money here. If not, go ahead and spend away. Buy machines until your heart is content. I'll buy it all in 12-18 months for half what you paid....

You tried to bump me from a tournament. In my book, that is stealing. Taking food from my table. All the time, you are emailing Downey for advice. That makes it personal.

Like I've been telling you before I dont want to compete with you, this is just a hobby. And yes I ask for advice, why wouldnt I.

I didnt think we would be friends but I thought the first time I emailed you that you would be willing to talk about your experience with someone that is learning. I really dont see me fixing this with you, not sure if I really want to. I now have two lathes one for cleaning shafts and the other for tips and such.

As far as the quiting my job, I would never ever make what I make at my job in the billiards business.

I will say that you and I will be going head to head at the Midwest Tournament. looks like you will be on one side of the door and I will be on the other. If you would like your welcome to pick which side you want.

I've been in pool most of my life I ran two pool rooms back in Ohio Diamond Billiards, and Docs Billiards both in Akron, one ended with divorce the other ended because of personal problems the owner had. I dont need to do this for the money I do it because I love it. I also have a family with two boys a wife and of course a mortgage. So making money is what I do where I work its the money used to provide for my family, anything that I get from playing pool with people or anything I get from cue repair is just mad money. So as for selling the equipment in a year thats not going to happen since I dont need the money to begin with.

Theres no doubt that you good at what you do, and I'm sorry you take it so personal. But I took it personal with a company tries to block me from even getting into this. That part is a fact! Rory doesnt want to compete he just wants to corner the market kind of what your looking to do. Its not going to happen I'm here to stay, I will find other ways to get what I want no matter what you or anyone says. That is also fact!

hmm.. i think you

What offer, was I going to buy your lathe? Did I miss something?

hmm i think you might hve missed way more than you think.. sounds like your a lil shady in my books, and if you think asking for advice and help in somebodys profession only to turn around and use it against them by trying to take their event, wow awfully gutsy mf friend.. i dont think ryan has anything to worry bout he is the best cue mechanic in the midwest, its just a shame but thats what is wrong with the sport from the pro players to the repair men cutting off their nose to spite their face......jm2c

You very well could be right. I'm sure I missed a lot.

Ryan is one of the best cue mechanics IN THE WORLD.

Hi,

I can see ryan's point because people who want tips at a tournament will mostly want to pay a little as they can. Price wars and under cutting is bad for everyone.

Randy you should find out what Ryan is charging and do not undercut those prices. At least if you respect that issue this will not escalate.

You are going up against a real pro with a great reputation. You will be the one under a microscope regarding craftsmanship and quality work.

Jmo,

Rick
