Valle Forge payouts

does anyone know what percentage the Valley Forge directors keep of the tournament entries.it seems like $5,000 for 1st is a little low for 800+ entries at $75 a piece.i was told 1st took $5,000 and there was close to $60,000 in entrie fees.

my numbers could be wrong also,i am just going by what a few guys told me who played in it.it all could have been exaggerated.i apologize to anyone involved if the numbers are wrong, again i was just going by what i heard and it seemed like the payout wasn't much.

to add to that. I know the winner of the amateur event and he has to wait 11 business days to get the 5000 he won. No offense but if I snap off that event. Gimme the loot!

There was 768 entries in the amateur event, and he probably paid around 20% of the field which would eat up that 57k easily. 5k for a $75 entry is not bad at all IMO.

i guess that would do it.i didn't think that 150 people would be paid out.it would be better to pay out about 16 people and then they really get paid

The winner is not the only one getting paid off. They pay down to over 30 places, which eats up a lot of money.
You also have to remember there are a lot of expenses to put on the VF tournaments. All of those tables are rented and brought in and the floor space is also rented and the staff is paid. That is just the tip of the ice berg.
If you don't like the pay out, you don't have to enter.

IIRC, I believe that the top four finishers in each of the sixteen brackets get a pay-out, that is 64 places being paid, not bad for a $75.00 entry with a 1st place of $5,000.00, plus the fact you have a free pass to the Expo for four full days included with your entry. And most importantly, nobody ever got stiffed for their prize monies in the sixteen years of the Expo.

Last year I posted this exact question. The replies I got lead me to believe that
a) you wont ever see the full payouts and # entries listed because they do remove a fair amt from the tourny
b) if you continue to ask be prepared for alot of criticism from fans/supporters/those of interest in the SBE. Alot of folks are very happy with the event and do not mind that Hopkins pulls big dollars out of the event as long as it continues.

I paid $75 dollars to be in the seniors tournament, but I also walked in the door for free for 2 days because I was a competitor. In my mind, since I saved $20 for the admission, I really only paid $55 entry fee for the tournament. If you look at it that way it certainly looks like a good deal.

The entry fee is NOT $75. It is $50. the other $25 goes towards the 4 day pass into the Expo.

You have to think of what it takes to put that tournament on. Allen's best friend lives here where I live and he was telling me some of the things it takes to put it on and you could not believe what it. I was told it is a year in planning. He also has to pay Diamond for all the tables. Remember you don?t have to pay for the games. In Vegas its $1.00 for every one you play. I am sure the staff does not work for free either. I don?t know of any other tournament you can go to and see as much or as many players for the cheep price of $75.00 and have one hell of a weekend. I have never done the math and I am sure all the moneys are not paid back but I have to ask. Is there anyone here that would do a tournament like that and just break even?? If so just do it one time and I will be there and when it?s over let us know how you feel then. I would be willing to bet no one would ever do it twice. Most players look at is the money and they never think of what it takes to do a tournament. JMO

If you pay 16 or even 24 out of nearly 800 entry's,,, next year you can expect about 100 players to show up and then they'll wonder why 1st place pays about $2000. Average players have to feel they have a chance to cash, or they won't come back.

The payout goes to the top 64 players - top 4 of each of the 16 brackets.

I have been told that Allen and his wife make a good deal of money for the Expo, but when you think of all the planning and everything they do during the Expo and leading up to it they should make good money for it. I have been going to Valley forge for the past 6 years and plan to attend every year going forward that my life allows me to. There are somethings I would like to see different but all in all it is a great event and would tell anyone that hasn't been they need to go atleast once.

No event is better than the SBE!

Last year you posted the 16 bracket winners for the Open Amateur event.
Would you happen to have this information this year? Better yet...do you happen to know the 64 money winners (top 4 in each bracket)?

Sorry, I didn't work the tournament desk this year and was only at the Expo on Satuday.

Not really, because then you only get 250-300 entries instead of 800. Alot of people put in the cash to play hoping to just hit the bottom end of the money and of those people who know they cannot make top 16 but might make that bottom end of the money alot would not even play if the tourney was THAT top heavy. 700+ players and only paying top 16 is worse then poker, and that is one top heavy sport. They should have paid down to about 128 in a tourney that size, that is 1/6th of the tourney or so, although most pool tournaments pay top 1/4 of the field.

Hi Folks,

I did the math when the payouts were posted. I placed 17 - 32 in the open and received $580. In the seniors, I placed 5 - 8 and received $590. Allen pays out the entire $50 entry fee in each event. Yes, $5000 is too little to take down an event of this size however, he makes the event worthwhile for the players who cash! Remember, single elimination.
