Value of Cues for Current Cuemakers

TATE said:
Runde is just fantastic. His current cues are excellent.

I collect his old Schons, with spliced points, and I would put those cues up against anything else built then or today. The points are perfect, the cues are very solid and extremely playable.

These days he builds what he wants and sells them for a reasonable price. The values are relatively middling because he chooses them to be. I respect him a lot.

Chris

Tate,

Could you email me Runde's contact info?

Thanks
Matt

I think you would have to ask that question according to price of the cue.

Like cues under $100; 100 - 250; 250 - 600; 600 - 1300; 1300 -2600; and over 2600.

. I guess what I am looking for is which cues have the highest values (not necessarily the best playing).
Based on name only? Is that what you're asking? I guess this is my list, although I'm sure I've forgotten someone in the top section.

Ernie Gutierrez
Tad Kohara
Bill Stroud
Barry Szamboti
Pete Tascarella

(intentional space)

Richard Black
Bill Schick
Burt Schrager
Mike Bender
Thomas Wayne
Tony Scianella
Joe Gold

Fred

1. Kikel
2. black
But when it comes to selling a cue you are gonna sell 20 200$ cues before 1 2000$ cue.

I'll just post it here:

Robert Runde Phone 262-857-6533

21751 65th St
Bristol, WI 531049789

His last e-mail address was RundeQ@aol.com but I don't know if it's still active.

Hope he has a nice cue for you - let us know what he says!

Chris

Ps. Just a little footnote. I mentioned Runde's name to another well known cue-maker. He looked at me and said "Now, that guy is good!".

makers

Living makers: (course you know Gus Sz would lead the leads if not, and Jerry Franklin would be in there too)

1. Barry SZ
2. Pete T
3. Joel H
4. Tad
5. Ernie G
6. Searing
7. Mottey
8. White
9. JW
10. Boar

Lots of other super makers.. Gilbert, Skip Weston ... certainly will be on this
list soon. and Shick should be mixed in there .. insert anywhere after #3

Here are my thoughts on the current market:

#1 Barry Szamboti
#2 DPK
#3 Pete Tascarella
#4 Dennis Searing
#5 Joel Hercek
#6 Ginacue
#7 Tad
#8 Paul Mottey/Jim White
#9 Bill Schick
#10 Richard Harris

JoeVan makes a good point....it's very difficult to compare all the current cuemakers "all things being equal". They never are....

For the few years South Wests have been easy to move and can bring a great return on your money, but it's difficult to place them into this list? They are no longer making any cues with inlay work. I think my list is a pretty good one if you just consider roughly equivalent "pointed and inlaid cues" and the ones you can get top dollar for right now.

This is a very interesting thread and it is neat to see different people's perceptions.

Roscoe, you are right. Danny should definitely be in there somewhere, but he's making so few cues that people are starting to forget about how him and how awesome his cues are. We've had two on order for going on 4 years.

Value is to vague..

Value as in resale? Value as in new TO customer? Value as in collectability?

also I think there is still some approach to this as a favorite cuemaker thread.

But believe me, in resale, value is very specific. lol

But one way to approach it is what do you get from cuemakers for a certain amount of money?

$ 1500.00

Cuemaker a - can't get his basic cue
Cuemaker b - won't return your calls
Cuemaker c - basic cue, 4 points ivory ferrules
cuemaker d - 4 points, ivory ferrules and inlays

But what does it all mean? What if the resale on cuemaker d is poor? Do you go to cuemaker c? Do you get a second hand cue from cuemaker b or a? This is where it pays to do your homework.

What are your specifics?
Beginner, intermidiate, collector...

Are you a cuemanizer?
Do you use one cue till your bord and send it off like a jilted lover?

Are you a cueophile?
You like touching cues in private places? Putting them away till you need to touch them again.

Your criteria may vary.

All those cue makers are great, one other question i like to ask is these cue makers started off somewhere. What up and coming cue makers are gonna make the next 10 "greatest" list?

Joss West

Tim Scruggs
Leonard Bludworth
Schon
Mike Sigel
Jerry Oliver
Black Boar
Judd Fuller
Bob Runde
Hagan Cues
Bill Schick
Thomas Wayne
Mike Bender

Phillippi

Just out of curiosity, has anyone else out there noticed the decline in the marketability of Joss West cues in the past two years? Perhaps it's a local thing, but Bill's cues have taken a fairly dramatic downturn as of late. Just wondering.?.

At the rate his cues are starting to be sent overseas, I'm guessing Andy Gilbert will make your future list. IMO

So where would cue makers like Bryan Mordt, and i know i would butcher his name Travis from Blackcreek Cues and like Jerry Oliver be?

I see that you have no bias when it comes to boys out of the state of FL. You left out Arnot.

How about overrated, over priced and overhyped lists :)

Left him out cause he dont make "my" top ten. Missed Bob Manzino, Paul Dayton, Chris Nitti, Rick Howard, Harry Richards and Arnot. Three outta ten isnt bias, its my opinion...<shakes head>. Not my fault I live in cuemaker heaven. Geez, I hate to have seen your reaction if the post was "all time greats"...most of them live in Florida now. Roll them eyes now...HAHAHAHA!! All in good fun.
