Value of every day player cue

For years I usally took a cue worth around 1000 to 2500 to the pool hall, but about
3 months ago I bought my daughter a 100 dollar South West knock off and it's one
of the best playing cues I've used.

So long story short I gave my daughter a 1975 Adam cue and confiscated her cue,
I couldn't help my self hell this cheap cue seems to make everything here lately LOL.

What that a Kaiser cue? I don't know if they still make new ones but for a while they were recommended by a lot of people as a cheap good looking cue with a big pin.

I walk into a pool room, I'm toting $1600 total package.
JB 2x3
R Howard + 2 shafts
Pech Pro-H + 1 shaft
Various accessories

I walk into a bar, I'm toting about $150 total
1x2 New Image Leather tube case
Schmelke Sneaky
Willard's & Brad on my keychain

$100 sneaky a friend made me. Shoots lights out!
Hooked it up with a nice old kiln dried maple shaft and a Triangle.
Everybody seems to like the hit too.

My other daily driver is appx $500. A custom Dufferin conversion.
Hits like a wrecking ball with a combat boot glued to the front of it.

It's George... room for 1. Titleist conversion wrapless. Tip pick. Probably around 800 total. Let's play. Matt D.

Im playing with a Scruggs 4 point that is an awesome player but I am a nervous wreck the whole time Im using it because Im afraid Im going to damage it. I am selling it and buying a $200 Schmelke.

Don't do it, you'll regret it the rest of your life! Worst case is you'll need to refinish it in 10 or 20 years.

I know many people have very nice and expensive cues here. What would you
say is the value of the cue you take to the pool room for serious play. Not the one
keep at home.
It might depend somewhat on the reputation of the poolroom and the regulars that frequent it. In a nice room in a safe location, particularly after dark, I'd say the value of the cues of the regulars who play there who bring their own cues can range from inexpensive sneaky pete's up in to 4 figure custom cues. Some players who have tables at homes with really nice custom cues, may choose to use a less expensive cue when they head out to a poolroom, just to be safe.

In our room here, the recreational players often have Walmart level cues or an inexpensive Asian made import they've ordered online, but most of our regulars have Pechauer or Predator cues, with a few who have cues from custom makers such a Gulassey.

No matter where I play, unless it's with guys I know and they won't leave the table, my cue is going to the bathroom with me, and usually it goes with anyways.

One exception is Classic billiards(near the super billiards expo) mainly if I'm playing Philly. There are a bunch of good guys there that make it easier to leave it at the table, plus the owner is always paying attention.

Lol no its not a Kaiser it's got MR on the butt. Don't know who makes it, it's ebony nose with Cocobolo points
and South West ring work.
It's actually a pretty nice looking cue but I'm amazed at how good it plays. Also shaft and butt are still straight
and from what I'm told that's rare.

Bank Shot in Louisville Ky was this way I could leave ( and did for years) my cue on table
while I went to the bathroom and never worry about it coming up missing.

Sadly it's closed for good now.

I'd strongly suggest buying that Schmelke before selling the Scruggs. And then only if you think the Schmelke is the best playing cue you ever had.

I always come back to SW cues although I've played with Padgets, Ginas, Prewitts, Joss West, and Tads.

My every day player is a SW Gaboon Ebony forearm with Tulipwood points, three veneers and A and B rings.

I've been playing with that cue most of the time since 2008 when I got it. Ordered it in 1999. Traded my plain and old SW pauferro, for a Ebony Prewitt with fancy rings that is in mint condition.

I hang a Tiger LD shaft with a 11.75 mm tip off my SW. SW is good about that and you can send them blanks and they will match the rings. A lot of custom cue makers won't do that. SW will also do custom tapers of their own shafts as well.

Played with the Tiger LD for about two years, took me a long time to get used to it.

You say this...

Like you actually ever come out and play....

Worthless! I gave the cue I play with to my wife for Valentines day a few years back. If I sold it. She would spend the money on jewelry or something silly. Leaving me with nothing tom play with.

About $500 - $750 depending on the day. Sometimes I like my Mezz better, some days I like my Fisher better.

Yeah its on the way already. The Scruggs is the tits, but its way too good a cue for my level of play.

value

So right now my everyday player is a Lee Peppers (with any number of different shafts on it - Tiger ultra-x LD, Gulayssey SPTX, Dunkel) backups carried with me in my case, Phillippi Fancy SP and an Omen set I just decided to purchase myself...

Probably $3k if you put them all together

I have two everyday players...both from the same maker...a $4000 custom Samsara, and a $1200 custom Samsara. Fit to either cue, I have the original shafts (all 13mm), a Tiger Pro X (11 3/4mm), a prototype McDermott G-Core shaft (11 3/4mm), a Ned Morris shaft (12.75mm), and my two Revo shafts (12.4mm & 12.9mm)...all 3/8x10 radial!

For the longest time I played with my $3500 JMW as it was the only cue I owned. I recently bought a couple cheaper cues, ~$900 range, and I rotate all three. Today I played with the JMW and a Summers full splice that I just bought. I also have a Joey that I’ve been playing with. I’ve got a veneered full splice Owen in the works as well as an 8-point Treadway and a 4-point Tonkin. I should come up on Hercek’s list sometime in the twenties.

The Price Of What One Pays For a Pool Cue Is Not a Consideration.

My approach is basic and simple; just about as vanilla as any approach to pool cues could ever be.

If I own a pool cue, then I play with it........at home, in your home and anywhere there's a pool table.

I play with any cue in my case at the pool hall; any of my pals can play with any cue in my case as well.

It is my humble opinion that a pool cue was purposefully built to be played with and truly appreciated.

I don't want to admire a pool cue, or keep it at home where may be the most safe. I want to actually use it.

Personally, even if I had landed my dream Hercek cue, that cue would be treated exactly the same way.
