I found a very old Meucci cue for sale at a local antique store. It has the clear label on the butt cap, a very small round rubber bumper, and a nylon insert in the shaft. Its a basic merry widow style cue of what looks like rose wood. Plain black linen wrap. It's not in great condition because the ferrule is separated from the shaft, no tip, linen wrap is fraying... The price tag was $165 and I passed on it, but I could always go back and get it.

Does it say Meucci on the cue? Never seen one with what sounds like a window in the butt. Also, never seen one with a nylon insert. Sounds like if it doesn't have a Meucci logo on it, it is actually a Huebler. But without pics, can't say for sure.

Sounds like a Huebler to me too.

Sounds like a Huebler but I bet it's a Meucci. I've seen a few of these with the clear sticker and black marking on it with the Meucci logo in cursive. At first I thought they were knock offs but they aren't. Meucci used a lot of Huebler traits in his very early cues including brass pins and round pill style bumpers. The nylon insert was another Huebler trait that wouldn't surprise me if it was used on a few really early meucci's considering Bob was a Huebler employee before going on his own. I'm guessing the cue is good.

I'm not sure why Meucci used a cursive logo on these stickers because they are Pre Meucci original logo. My only guess would be the sticker was easily printed in ink but to put a cursive logo in a butt cap was more difficult at that time. The Meucci original logo was only ever stamped in the cues rather than engraved. that's my .02

Meucci cues get bashed pretty hard for what they are currently putting out but Bob Meucci was really a great innovator for where we are today, and built a damn nice cue 30 years ago. From inlaying gold ladies, to card sleeves, to the wico blank, to having a hand in the porper case.......the man has done a lot for this game.

Not unlikely an early example.......

Worth the money? Probably. I would say that is just a tad below retail if the cue is in nice shape. The ferrule and wrap issue are relatively minor and easily set right. I would be more interested to know the structure and finish condition. Any warp? Nicks? Missing finish?

For somebody that wants the cue I would say the price is fine.....

I usually try to stay away from value questions but have opened my yap in the last couple days. Couldn't help it. So....I will say I am no expert at all....take what you like from what I say about value but it is no appraisal.

Hi guys, When I said the cue has a clear label on it, this is what I meant...

Some of the first Meucci cues had nylon inserts in them because he learned from Paul.
