True, but the clear coat finish prevents moving of wood due to humidity...

Granting that the cue is properly sealed from top to bottom. But, will all know that not many cues are done this way. In many cases, the joint and the butt section are the first thing to suffer from movement.

Now that we have the coefficients of materials moving with heat, I think It would be better to find the coefficient of expansion of materials relative to heat, and moisture.

I'm pretty sure you'll find that wood moves a hell of a lot more than the metal rings. Now if you leave your cue in your car on extreme temp. days, then what do you expect, wether you have metal rings or not?

I have a cue that I can feel the metal rings, and the finish is still touching the rings. Do you suppose those rings expanded from heat, but never contracted?

Anyone like to think?

all I know is that almost every cue (multiple makers) with metal rings over time the rings could be felt pushing up. None were like that when new, and all my cues are kept inside, away from sudden temp changes.

I don't know why it happens, and don't really care. Just know that it does happen. Never have felt a phenolic, or wood ring do that on any that I've owned.

I just prefer not to use these style metal rings. I've seen way too many cues...even those from master cuemakers, where the rings expand and damage the clearcoat. Therefore I'd rather not use them and take any chances. There is a reason you've never seen a SW with any metal.
This cue was promised with them so I guess this makes it truly a 1 of 1.

Kevin,

with all due respect, I dont think the metal rings expand, the wood shrinks, I have more than a few cues here in Vegas that thats happened to, If I take them to my house In Los Angeles and let them sit for a year the wood comes even with the rings, but the finish is bad.

metal dosent expand, wood moves.

respectfully

eric

ps: I have one of your cues, it plays good, alot of people have used it and most like it, its a bit short is the biggest complaint, its still a nice hitting cue. For the price its alot of cue for sure,
