SOLD!
Here is trick little barbox beater style cue. Although the cue looks like a veneered short splice with an ebony handle...it is NOT! The blank was one I bought a while back from Schmelke...its a 4 veneer rosewood into maple fullsplice. The veneers are tan, green, orange, and black. I bought the blank new as a BLEM (blemish). It had some places where the veneer work wasn't perfect...hence they gave me a great price that I'm passing along. The problem was that the tip of the points were not the sharpest as can be seen in my pic. Also part of the black veneer gets a little thin at the base of the points too...this can be seen in the pics as well. The real issue was that somehow they managed to get the veneers to criss cross into a little x pattern at the base of the points where the veneers would meet. Honestly...this looked horrible. So bad in fact that originally I planned to cut it into a j/b as this would allow me to cover the area with a phenolic collar at the jump joint. I decided to be creative a bit instead. I decided to leave the cue in one piece since rosewood fullsplices are well known to be some of the finest hitting cues made. So...I dyed the handle area jet black. This allowed me to cover the tiny bottom section of the veneers and makes the cue look like a 4pt with an ebony handle and rosewood buttsleeve. Let me say it again to be clear: this cue is a fullsplice with that wondeful fullsplice hit & is NOT cut as a typical short slice.
Sorry for the lengthy explaination...I just wanted to be clear & represent the cue as honestly as possible.
Now for the specs: this cue is 58" and weighs 18.7oz and is finished a very nice satin. The shaft is 12.7mm and weighs 3.8oz alone. The ferrule is white Elforyn and the tip is a Lepro. The joint pin is 3/8-10. The joint collars are black phenolic & the buttcap is Aegis II.
If you like a softer hitting cue...then this is NOT the cue for you. I have to say I was shocked at the "hit" this cue provides. Normally an Elf ferrule with a Lepro would give a somewhat quiet, softish hit...not this time. I have no expanation as to why, but this cue hits extremely firm and hard. It has that wonderful solid feel & the "ping" that so many players look for in a cue. The hit is more like what I'd expect with a melamine ferrule and Superpro tip. I usually like a softer hitting cue but this one plays so well that I had been using it. Then I loaned it to a buddy for a road trip & just now managed to wrestle the cue back from him. The blems are purely cosmetic and have no effect on performance. Often unfinished veneered fullsplice blanks sell for $300-400 or more. Being a blem & the fact its lightly used...I'll price it for a super fast sell. If you are looking for a stellar player on a budget...here is the perfect one. Makes a fine barbox cue as you need not worry about it like you would a more expensive cue. Thank you for looking.
