I was going to save this for a thread I plan to write when I get settled in but I saw this post and had to laugh.
I'm not 30 years old anymore but sometimes I don't think about that. I was walking through the Riviera halls a few times a day going back and forth from my hotel room to the tournament room. It was about a 5-10 minute walk depending upon how fast you wanted to travel.
There was lots of pool players both male and female. A sweet looking young gal and I were just having a nice conversation about our mutual tournament experiences. I think her name was Jesse James.Anyway, I was feeling pretty good about that conversation (completely innocent and very pleasant) and on Friday, I was walking with a friend to the hotel room and I had my U.S. Open One Pocket Championship 2011 shirt on with my sponsors patches on and feeling pretty good having won my first match on Thursday.
When we approached the halfway point where all of the BCA amateur players were, another nice looking, well-dressed, young lady was looking at me rather directly as we were walking. I wasn't sure if she was looking at me, my friend or at the signage on my shirt, so I just kind of blinked my eyes acknowledging her gaze and walked on. Later on that evening, I was walking back to my room and there she was again in the same spot, looking directly at ME. This time she kind of had a sparkle in her eyes. Well, I could swear her eyes were sparkling; at least that's the way they appeared to me. I stare back at her, kind of with a look of disbelief in my own eyes, wondering if maybe she knew me or maybe she saw the interview TAR did or maybe she saw me do some pool commentary or who knows, maybe she saw me play pool and was kind of laughing at me and the way I played pool. It really didn't matter at that point because I was kind of enjoying the attention. We continued walking back toward my room, so after I walked about 50 feet past her, I decided to give one quick glance back at her. Sure enough, she was still staring at me, this time with kind of a cute smile on her face. I then figured she must have known me from the pool world or was just having fun teasing me. Anyway, I go on to my hotel room, not giving it any more thought. About two hours later I am headed back to the tournament room and who do you think is still standing there, looking prettier than ever. Yep, you guessed it; the mystery lady. This time it is different. This time, I am looking at her before she sees me and as soon as she makes eye contact with me, she starts beaming and I'm now waiting for her to come up to me and ask me for an autograph or give me a hug for a job well done or something. Anyhow, as I get really close to her, she kind of twists her body just a little and starts smiling, really, really nice at me and you know I start really looking at her a lot closer and she is dressed very nicely, not provocatively but I can tell she look really good. That's when my dunce cap fell off and I laughed and smiled back at her with a kind appreciation. I don't know for sure what was up with all of that but it made for a great story and I felt kind of special at least for a few minutes and yes, that's the end of the story.I walked on to the tournament room without engaging in conversation and I never saw her again.
