Vegas or Bust

We're hoping to get to Vegas ahead of time, so that Keith can practice. I'm wondering if that Lou Butera's pool room has Diamond tables.

Last night, we went to Paradise Billiards, which has been in existence since 1968, on the advice of Regis a/k/a "Sixpack" on AzBilliards. We met Melody who remembered Keith from 1979, when she used to play herself. As soon as I mentioned to Melody that Regis referred us to Paradise Billiards, she immediately smiled and remembered Regis well, stating she just loved that fellow a whole bunch. She was flattered that he praised her cooking too. I took a picture of her holding a note for Regis and will post it when we get back home in D.C.

A local called Mark Haddad who is living with WPBA Pro Melissa Little. Keith and Mark are old friends and began to hit 'em around a bit. Mark is hitting 'em SWEET. He did play in two IPT qualifiers, but didn't make it to the top. However, he's fully capable, and I'd like to see him take another shot at it.

Melissa Little is the nicest person. As a matter of fact, EVERYBODY here in Denver is nice, much different than any other part of the country I have ever visited. Melissa, BTW, is gearing up for Peoria, the WPBA event, and after it is over, she and Ga Young Kim [sp] are going to be returning to Denver together and doing a couple of exhibitions along the way.

Melissa has such a nice spirit about her. I love her attitude about professional pool. You can see that she was born to be a pool player because she has such a great deal of passion for this game. I was very pleased to get to know her a bit last night. She and Mark are very happy together, practicing pool and enjoying life to the fullest.

Oh, Jay, BTW, I'm always the designated driver and don't let anybody drive my vehicle, not even my daughter. I'm a lawyer's daughter and am paranoid about any consequences that could happen if somebody had an accident. Keith is a good co-pilot, though, and reads the directions pretty good today. We don't smoke in my car, and it's a non-drinking mobile too. I'm kind of a straight arrow that way, I guess! If I ever get pulled over, I ain't got nothing to worry about, other than speeding maybe. This 75 MPH speed limit is the nuts! I'm going about 85 and 90 during some stretches, and it seems like I'm going 30 MPH!

Well, I hope to be in Vegas tomorrow and will report back with some Vegas action pre-IPT event! :p

JAM

Hi JAM,

Glad you had fun at Paradise. That's one of my favorite pool rooms of all times. As for Melody, she's been a really good friend for a long time and is one of the best people I know. I never get tired of spending time with her. She has pool stories that would make most of the road players drool with anticipation.

She's a hell of a player in her own right.

Did you try the patty melt?

Also, I'm going to try to get to Vegas this coming weekend. Hopefully I'll be able to meet you out there.

Cheers,
RC

What happens on those forums when users start telling the moderators how to do their job?

:D

If the poster is right then he gets kudos and if wrong then he gets censured. The moderator doesn't wait until 50 negative posts have been made and the thread IS ALREADY HIJACKED before he stops it.

I participate in many moderated boards, for business and design and in them the threads NEVER get out of line like these. NEVER.

This forum is ridiculous when it comes to how it's moderated. People get banned for innocent stuff while others are allowed to stalk and insult at will.

The only reason I come here is because I like some of the people that are here.

Wanna put this thread back on track - delete all the posts after Macguy's first one in this thread.

I suggest everyone go to the library and check out copy of Farhenheit 451.

Followed up with a rereading of "1984".

Jam enjoyed reading about your trip, it sounds great. I have that downer macguy on ignore it makes for a nicer forum not reading his negative vibes in every thread. On your way home you need to line the car up with the Starbucks for your coffee fix. Can't wait for your daily updates if you have time. Most of us here at AZ enjoy your threads. Maybe in the future the naysayers will just keep quiet.
I mean my god how can someone question your mode of transportation, OMG are they just wacked? ooops my brain was typing again.
huge hugs kiddo, you and Keith have a great time

Wake Up Jam!!!

Most of us are anxiously awaiting your next post concerning your trip and experiences. Where did ya stay last night? Did you all find any action?
Where are you at now? Do you know if Brandon is going to make it?
Good luck and drive safe. You are getting pretty close now.
Best Wishes, Purdman:D

I'm waiting on the big wow from driving through the mountains. If all those cows impressed our roving reporter then I can hardly wait for JAMs comments on the Rockies :)

Ya ! That's the place :D JAM reacted about as I expected, but jumped ship to another thread

Many of us have disagreements about a lot of things. The point that was being made here is that someone was telling someone else they were absolutely wrong, when they had no reason to say it. Nothing was going to change. JAM and Keith were already on their way. They made a decision that was right for them. It's like telling someone they shouldn't eat at McDonalds when they are half way through a quarter pounder. Nothing will be gained, it's just spreading negativity, serves no purpose, and completely ignores the fact that we are free to make our own choices as we see fit. Flying might be right for some...driving for others. Who is to say which is right or wrong?

If they have been in Sacramento practicing and hanging out, all things considered, that's actually pretty close proximity to the tournament maybe a quick 7 to 8 hour run, now "THAT" sounds like a plan.

Bellflower, actually even closer. :) They just got in weds. from Asia. Now that's some jet lag to get over!

That's got to be rough. I would hate to be doing any amount of traveling just before a tournament. Today, even a short trip by air from the time you are getting your stuff together, get to the airport in advance complete the flight and end your trip, even a flight from say New York to Atlanta can be a 6 hour odyssey, forget about across the country maybe with connections. It can be expensive with extra days in the hotels and other expenses but the money in these tournaments may require an little extra commitment. I used to go to tournaments and see guys drive in the day of the tournament and play right out of the car.

Many times they would not even get a place to stay. If they did make it to the second day they would be driving around 11 at night looking for the cheapest place to sleep for the night, some may even sleep in their cars. That was fine for local and state tournaments with small prize funds but this is a completely different animal. The players who want to do well are going to have to come up with a regime, what ever that may be, that at least for them gives them the best chance of producing a peak performance. because that is going what it will take to win.

There are just too many good players and too much at stake to leave anything to chance. The fun and games are over, this is the real thing, it's what they have been waiting for all their lives and you don't piss something like this away. That was all I was saying to start with.

Or they can do the same old same old and next year, if there is one, be on the outside looking in when maybe they didn't have to be. Truth is, I don't expect pool players to smarten up, historically, most are just losers waiting for a handout. Then you have a few like J. Lee and the late Mizerak who make their lives happen. Even Tiger Woods looked to Jorden for advice because he was so successful.

I am sure most pool players spent more time being jealous of Mizerak with his high paying corporate gigs then seeking his advice as to how they could do it. You know, the other players that were up for the Miller commercial, were trying to put together savers so they could all make a few bucks if one of them got the job. I had this on very good authority, your basic short term thinking pool player mentality. Some, the smart ones, will make the most of this current opportunity and others probably won't even make it out of the casinos with their prize money.

No offense, but I wouldn't want you as my A.A. partner.

.....that is the best reply of the month. Damn, I am pissed I didn't say it.

I'm sure you are, Watchez. I hope you enjoy the IPT tournament from the forum. I know MANY will be providing some great updates.

Personally, I'm going to step back and enjoy the IPT tournament here in Vegas. Posting on this forum has placed me and mine as punching bags for you and a few trolls. Hope you guys are having fun. I know I sure will.

JAM...guess you missed earlier in this post that I defended your choice to drive to Vegas. Glad to hear you made it safely.

I was merely commenting on the fact that this guy made a good comeback to pooltchr's pitiful analogy of the situation.
