Verl Horn? Or, have I been had?

horn 3.jpgI just bought this cue on ebay last week to flip or trade with later on. Now that I have it in my hands, I'm not sure it's really even a Horn. The points are not very sharp, kinda remind me of an old chinese import cue. The buttsleeve is a different kind of wood than the points. The joint is like a yellow micarta look, the ferrule is not. Part of the "R" in the signature is gone, I thought it was branded into the cue on a real Horn. I don't want to accuse anyone of selling a fake, unless I'm sure. In this case I'm not convinced it is a real Horn, what do you guys think.
 
The rubber bumper assembly resembles my Verl Horn cues.
Possibly an early cue, I don't think someone would fake a Horn.
You never know about fakes these days, but it seems ironic to fake a Horn.
 
Mine is not in that condition, but the bumper area is designed the same way.
 
Signature does not look correct and never seen one with a Micarta joint.Looks like some thing Adams produced.

I used to work for Verl back in the mid 90s

its real...

the signature is old and the blank was from Adams - he converted some cues back in the day

he loved Micarta and used it all the time until he couldnt get anymore - then switched to ivory mostly...he would use Micarta on his newer cues on rare occasions
 
His early cues had HORN on the butt cap later he inlayed Horn on the butt right above the butt cap and if this is his it would be when he first started all that I have seen like this had a Capitol H as it was his last name ! For some reason his cues are not expensive and I doubt it would be a fake! Enjoy it you may want to send it to Steve Kornele for a refinish Verl taught him how to make cues and he does a great job!

Is the ebony and ivory in you sig,original or converted,either way very nice!
 
Adams forearm

This makes sense if he used adams forearms, cause this cue definately has a sub-par forearm, and thats what bothered me.
 
i never saw that name style,but Verl and I were only friends the last
10 years or so of his life

its possible but I am used to seeing the horn in the white butt caps

prather might know for sure
