Video Cameras for Pool?

Yep, I didn't mean to imply that accessories were expensive - but just that there's a lot of them available so you can spend a lot on them. heh.

a wireless mic? hrmm that's interesting. not sure i'd ever use that - it's a lavalier mic; maybe hang on the lights over the table?

i was thinking about this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-ECM-DS30...UTF8&coliid=IH05UL3X4N9RV&colid=34J7UUEQK4K9W

but the mic on the camera does a damn nice job i gotta say so far.

I agree, there are tons of accessories for this camera. Youtube has instructions on attaching Macro and Zoom lenses. This thing is like the Honda Civic of low end camcorders, meaning its easy and cheap to modify. I wonder if this could be adapted to live streaming.

I like this Sony mike modification.

That's an impressive looking mic. I'd be really curious to hear how different it audio is with one of those vs the internal mic? Like I said, the internal has done a pretty good job of not distorting with loud music/etc.

Pretty cool set-up!

Borrowing a simple camera from a friend, which is low resolution.

I have determined that I definitely want to have good low light capability, well as HD, and I want it to be chip based to make it easier to put in the computer for editing.

SO... been doing a ton of research, watching eBay like a hawk now looking for a decent buy.

Thanks for all the help!

Reviving an old thread, I know. I just ordered a Sanyo Xacti VPC-GH4 Camcorder through Amazon for $169. Condition is "Used - Like New".

Here's a link for a few more that are available:

http://www.amazon.com/Sanyo-VPC-GH4-Camcorder-Range-Charcoal/dp/B00426D9KQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1306983981&sr=8-1

Specs can be found here:

http://us.sanyo.com/Dual-Cameras/VPC-GH4-Full-HD-1080-Video-and-10MP-Digital-Photos-with-10X-Dual-Range-Zoom

Of interest are these specifics, at least to me:

  • Full HD 1080, 60i Video (1920 x 1080)
  • Digital Image Stabilizer (Photos and Video)
  • Mini HDMI Digital Interface
  • SDXC Memory Card Compatible

I have an Early 2011 MacBook Pro with an SDXC slot, so can't wait for this baby to arrive. I bought a couple 64G card for $120, which should allow several hours of uninterrupted shooting...swap and transfer to MacBook Pro as we go...

Mouse, thanks for the update! I might consider to go the same route eventually, either amazon or ebay, to get a cheap but good quality flash-memory camera for shooting my pool practice only (well if it turns out really good maybe not just for pool). Please share your impression of the cam once you get it and try. A sample video woudl be great ;)

There are so many available options for camcorders. Lots of them depend on how diverse your usage may be or may become. Lots have to do with your computers ability, your interest in editing what you shoot. That could include things like transitions, subtitles, cutting out and trimming the video. Transferring it to different medias.

I suggest you take a short trip to this site, and post the question there. You will get great advise from some great folks.

I'm hoping to capture 14-1StraightMan as he breaks his high run again. :) I'm only starting to get back in stroke, so I'm also interested in seeing myself shoot. This way I can see if my form is off.

I think we played about 30 games so far and my cue still feels foreign in my hands. Once I get the feel back I'm fairly certain I'll be able to string some decent runs together. I may not win our match, but I want to go out swiging. Hehe...

I manage support for close to 2000 Mac users in a multimedia company. I'm hoping to get some helpful info from the AVID and FCP folks. This is my first video camera. Strange feeling, I've been supporting these guys for so long that I know how the applications work. I'm just not used to using them. I have iLife 2011 and Adobe CS5.5 Master Collection, so I hope between these two suites I'll be able to learn enough to make some nice videos to post.

if you output the video in .WMV format they videos are pretty clean and the quality isnt to deteriated from conversion amd the file size use issually good for uploading.

like i said in the other post...Vimeo.com gives you the most space to work with each week and no need to split the files for easier viewing.

when you output the video the software should tell you the final file size before proceeding with the conversion.

Good Luck
Steve

Hi Steve, I'll definitely look at Vimeo. I'll also look at the forum 3andstop suggested. I have a lot to learn on the video production end of things. :)
