Contest Rules
  1. Videotape yourself running out this rack under 6 minutes
  2. Submit your video to YouTube.com. Enter "CueTable Billiard Contest 2008.12" in the title and tags for the video.

  4. The contest ends on 01.01.2009. At that time we will reveal the video of a pro player playing this layout and announce the winners.

You don't need need an aiming system to run a rack but it will definitely help in the long run. It will make your game much more consistent, no more missing easy shots. It improves you percentages on difficult shots if you get out of line.

Nice run even though you got a bit lucky nudging balls and it didn't cost you.
 
yes it is a 100" x 50" 9 foot table. Its a Gold Crown Clone made by "National".

I just make the game look so easy:)


I think its a setting on my camera. The original 25mb file looks even worse. It stretched the image to make every thing look a bit longer and slightly thinner. It does it automatic when I zoom out to get the whole table in... I'm not smart enough to figure it out :)



edit - you guys are crazy. It, clearly, does not look like a toy seven... When I stretch to make the three and six you can see... If it was a kids table I could grab the opposite short rail with my teeth ;) but on a nine I can barely get passed the side pockets...

Yep and I'm gonna win it :) but don't tell anybody cause I want to go cheap in the calcutta!

BTW, I heard the Palace is having it there... Not sure who is going to be official but it looks like both places are claiming to have it this time around.

I hope both places have one...


For those who don't know. There is a very large tournament held in Alaska every year. usually over 100 man field. First year I played I think the 8 ball had 126 and the 9 ball had 95. First place with side pot is in the thousands... We have some strog players here too. Must be 30 A players running around town... makes for a great tournament...
 
Ok here it is with the six included.....

SOrry about that last one. I didn't realize that I didn't have the six on the table until I had already uploaded the video.

Ok. So what I did was use inside english on the one to kill the CB off of the foot rail. Then I used follow off of the two and tried to thread the nine five.

I ended up with a little more angle than I wanted. It was a difficult choice for the first shot because a lot of things could go wrong. I had to really finesse with the speed control to make sure I had enough angle on the two. Also, if I had ended up on the other side of the seven it would have been more diffiult to get on the three.

I cut the three into the corner with the intention of missing the nine but hitting the nine put it and the seven in better position. Although I would've liked to have been a little more straight on the five.

On the five because of the angle I elected to go three rails to get on the six. Again, I would've liked to have been a little more straight in. Luckily I have a pretty straight stroke and could make the cut on the six.

I didn't try to do anything too fancy coming off the six which was why it was a good thing that I hit the nine coming off of the three.

With the somewhat longer shot I had on the seven I elected to play natural shape for the eight and I ended up with just enough angle to play natural follow for the nine.

I sank the nine and that was that.

I know that there have been many who wanted to see how I shoot, and I didn't mind getting a T-shirt, so I elected to go ahead and do this little contest and post it.

It's kind of a pain to upload videos to youtube though. This is the first time I've tried.

P.S. My table is a custom nine footer with four inch pockets. that's why almost every shot goes dead center pocket, because on my table if it doesn't go dead center, it usually doesn't go.
 
So I printed this out at work yesterday, but didn't get to stop home to get my camera or video camera. I tried to use my phone (Treo) camera, and it worked, but I spent more than an hour trying to download a tool to convert and edit it etc. Finally found one, but it was 3am, so I went to sleep. Long story short, I'll post the link to the video tonight after work, hopefully the conversion process has completed by now...

To describe what I did:

1 ball - Used low right to pocket ball and slide toward 3 ball. The angle was perfect where I hit below the 3 most of the time and bounced back out for an angle on the 2

2 ball - low right again to come back up for 3 ball, trying to get almost straight in

3 ball - depending on angle, hit and draw back an inch or two to play 5 in the side, or slide under it to play 5 in side or corner

5 ball - Make in whatever pocket (usually side) and float up a bit, maintaining a 20 degree angle or so on the 6

6 ball - low left, come back across table toward where the 1 ball was

7 ball - depending on angle, come off end rail and back to side rail by 8, or follow out 2 rails toward 8

8 ball - draw back for 9 on either side depending on angle

9 ball - in the hole!


Interesting layout - actually took me a few times to get it right (the way I wanted to anyway). I ran it the second try but it was true adventure pool, out of line on 1/2 the shots. Then over the next 5 or 6 attempts I ran out twice but not on the lines I was trying for, or bumped a ball, or botched a shot.

I tried to do a cue table of how I would run this table. I don't know how to use more than 2 CB's. All of the lines from using ghost ball feature made it look like a spider with two asses walked a web around the table. I will see if I am able to get video.

I played the one with center and right to go off side rail by the 3 and straight out, careful not to hook myself on the seven, for the 2 ball. I played the 2 with bottom right and off the side rail between the 3 and side. If I would have got a better angle, I would have played 1 rail out for the 3. I played the 3 and stopped a little off the rail for the 5. I moved the CB a little closer to the 6 with a center hit on the 5. I played low left on the 6 and came off the side rail below the side pocket. The angle I finished with gave me a top right on the 7 allowing me two rail shape for the 8. I played CB 1 rail off 8 across table for the 9.


I don't like going to the side rail off the 1 because of the 7; however, the 7 comes into play rolling forward off the 1. I would have liked to gone forward off the 1, two rails behind the 7 and out for the 2, but the CB hits the 7.

Good drill though, takes good shape and pots.

Dear all,

It seems the contest is very popular this time. We got 3 winners in the duration of 2 days.

I would like to extend the contest by adding 5 more shirts for 5 more winners, this will give people a second chance to take a shot of something fun.

Btw, the layout is from a real game between two top players in the past. Would you like to discuss the possibilities and outcomes, especially after you have try it on a real table?

With video this time...

Wow, I'm never going to try to capture and upload video from my phone again. First, it's grainy, but hopefully clear enough to see what I'm doing. Second, it's in a proprietary format, I tried to download 4 video converters to get it into a more normal format so I could edit out the garbage and failed attempts, 1 didn't work, 1 came with a virus that I cleaned up, 1 took several hours and never finished, and one (Prism) finally worked. Probably spent 4 - 5 hours total for 2 minute video, there has to be a better way...

Anyway, here's the video. I never did try following the 1 down to the end rail for the 2, drawing over to the side rail just seemed pretty consistent for me. Once you get from the 2 to the 3, unless you fell real funny on the 5 the rest of the rack was fairly easy, just get from the 6 to the 7 (straight back or across table) and you are home free.

This was my first time doing this, and I will keep doing these in the future just for fun. I tried it about 15 times, ran out the second time but it was ugly, then made some dumb mistakes etc. All in all ran out about 5 or 6 out of 15 attempts, 2 or 3 the way I wanted to more or less, but I learned more I think from the failed attempts. Thanks for doing these!!!
