Video evidence that Cyclop is garbage

What Ken Shuman said about the Cyclop Cue Ball

This is a match where the Cyclop Cue Ball rolls off a lot.

At the 46:42 time stamp during the match, Ken thinks he mutes his microphone and begins talking to the other commentator about the "defect in the cue ball". You have to turn your volume up high and listen close.

He say's, "There's a defect in the way the cue ball is made...The guy from Cyclops knows about it...If the logo is on the right, the cue ball goes left...when you hit it at slow speed."

OMFG, that's about as bad as it gets for a product. WOW.

Ouch!!!

Not good.

Which cue ball sucks less?

1.) Cyclop
2.) Measle

I played a lot of 3c billiards at a spot where they ran the balls through a commercial polisher after each set and the measle balls be an to wear differently at the dots, vs. the rest of the ball. They would then wiggle at slow speeds.

Time for the DuPont folks to sponsor another round of pool ball r&ado!

I will say this...

I have always played with Aramith balls until I bought my new table and I requested a set of Cyclop balls. I now have both sets and have pretty much stopped playing with the Aramith.

While it took me awhile to get used to Cyclop balls I probably like them more now. The biggest thing I noticed about the Cyclop that took getting used to was they throw less (in my opinion) than Aramith on thin cut shots. So, I cut them a bit thinner.

And it doesn't matter if the balls are dirty (40-50 racks) or just come out of the polisher. The Cyclop seems to have less friction induced throw than the Aramith. For the sake of starting an argument, I will once again say this is my opinion only.

AND I am not a beginner pool player either so whether that lends a bit of credit or not I threw it out there anyway as it came up earlier in the thread.

What you talking bout?

I think I remember reading that phenolic resin was developed in response to a competition initiated by DuPont, in order to find a replacement for ivory.

Sometimes I make shit up, sometimes I am right and all inbetween.

Same here.

I have a set of Super Amanith TV balls and also owned a set of their Duramith balls. I have also owned a set of Cenntenials. And now I use the Cyclops balls exclusively when I go to the pool hall.

They're the nuts -- they play more consistently and stay cleaner *way* longer than the Aramiths.

Two things about whatever problems people may or may not be experiencing:

#1 No one has 100% on quality control. When you're producing in the tens of thousand, you're going to get a few bad ones.

#2. Mark's offer should take care of anyone experiencing #1.

Um, am I the only one that noticed a fairly noticeable difference between the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock rolls?

The difference in camera angles between the two videos makes the difference less noticeable as it would have been if the camera angle stayed the same. (Why would you want to do something so unscientific as to change the camera angles for each video?) Just play both videos to the end and compare the final frames of each video.

Let's just talk bottom line. I have played with the Cyclop balls at the DCC the last two years and I don't like them as they don't seem to play and react like I'm used to. At home I have a set of Brunswick Centennials, a set of Aramith and a set of original Hyatts from Albany NY. These all seem to play about the same. For cue balls I have a blue circle, a red circle, a red dot and a measles and these all play a little different due to weight. I also have a couple of ivory cue balls but I don't use them. So bottom line to me, I'm not buying any Cyclop balls and if enough people take this idea then they will either adjust the Cyclop balls to play right or they won't be selling them here in the US.

Yes, this is definitely one of the major problems all the Cyclops seem to have. Whether they roll straight or not.
I think it's one of the things that causes them to not react like other balls. Not at all. Not even close. They spin differently, react differently after impact.....etc......etc
You gotta work em differently around the table.

Unless everywhere you played used Cyclops balls ... why would you want to get used to them? I would bet that most tournaments in your area and all league play in your area do not use Cyclops balls. Why would you want to adjust your aim for a set of balls that only you are using?

Best wishes in your healing.
