A few weeks ago, Dennis sent me some video of the 2008 DCC Straight Pool Challenge - the videos were taped by Elvicash - no sound or commentary. I have taken some of these videos and I have added commentary to them.

This is the first one I have uploaded - a nice 116 by Niels Feijen that shows his awesome control of the balls and the table.

Niels Feijen 116 Ball Run

I know that my commentary isn't the best (it's EXTREMELY difficult and awkward doing commentary by yourself - so if you say it sucks I understand completely - but its better than nothing at all) - I am not the best video maker either, but I hope you all learn something from this video. I'm just throwing these out there as a way for us to learn more from watching the greatest players as they problem solve through rack after rack after rack.

Thanks for posting the commentaries Blackjack

I have not had a chance to watch it but I will.

Thanks again to all and hope you enjoy the videos and learn more about 14.1

I do not want to leave out Bob Jewett. Thanks for putting on this and I hope to record more 14.1 video at a future event.

BTW- My next round of video will have a proper sound.

Thanks for sharing. I just saw the video clip and thought the commentary was very instructive.

I hope you'll do more of these in the future!

Awesome initiative Blackjack.
It's a pleasure to watch a run like this, especially as a warm-up before you head out to play some yourself.
Niels as a deliberate rythm and looks so in control all the time.
I'm looking forward to watching this one.

(btw, is it a 116 or 166 run? not that it matters much but...)

GREAT work blackjack! excellent insight into the choosing of the balls, and why. I would have liked more insight into the "triangle" theory on the last 3 balls. I see what you were saying, but it's a concept I never tried, or used.

Your love for the game comes out in your commentary, and thats what makes it fun for us bangers!

G.

Keep it up Blackjack - commentary is fine - instructive too - so lets see more of these!!

Excellent work, David. You have taken the raw video and turned it into something entertaining and very educational for us 14.1 buffs. I'd give you some positive rep but you know how that goes.:D

Feijen is so smooth and in control it is a real pleasure to watch.

And we will have a treasure trove once you do the rest. Wow!!

very good work

Thanks Blackjack!

Now this is a run to watch! I thought before the quality of these video clips was not very good, but I was wrong it just needed some good commentary! :)

Thanks again!
Michael

I would like to thank everybody for the positive feedback. I'm actually surprised because I wasn't sure how the quality was on the commentary - I will try to explain more when I do commentary on some players that I know well. I don't know Niels very well, which made that very difficult with this video - his web site is fantastic and has a lot of great information about his career - thanks goes out to Niels for being such a great supporter of straight pool!

Here is a link to Niels' website - it is one of the best pool player websites out there.

I am in the process of completing some commentary on some of Johnny Archer's attempts - I will work on that later today.

I am almost done with the commentary on Thorsten Hohmann's 98 ball run. I'm just waiting for Thorsten to call me so I can clarify some statistics and facts about his career - I should have that one up as soon as he gets back with me.

That was very cool Blackjack. Much more enjoyable than the raw footage! Thanks!

Thanks for putting this together, Blackjack. I really enjoy Neils' tempo and mechanics, and he really seems to manage the table well (even my untrained eyes can figure that out!).

Anyway, I find that I can watch straight pool without any commentary and really enjoy it. But I feel that, as a beginner, I get so much more out of watching good players when there is a knowledgeable commentator talking about various shots/strategies before they are executed. It gives me an extra couple of seconds to see WHY a particular shot makes sense, and it helps me get into the head of the shooter.

Anyway, thanks again. I tried to give you more rep, but it says I need to spread it around first.

Jeff
