This is unbelievable but you tell me what you think.
I started watching this Led Zeppelin concert video on YouTube.
After you watch it I'll tell you why I think it really could be Cole. Unbelievable.
The date of the concert is Aug. 25, 1971.
The place is the Sam Houston Coliseum in Texas.
Cole was in Fremont, CA (his home town) around 1970 having come in off the road with Keith Thompson.
They arrived in a faded greenish VW beetle with a dented driver side front fender from "hitting a deer."
They "just arrived" from Houston.
I don't know where they went when they left Fremont
but it seems possible that they may have gone back to Houston
after probably dropping by San Francisco and L.A. and even possibly Phoenix.
So the timing is right and back to Houston makes some sense.
He appears at 0:22 walking away from the camera holding hands with his date.
He is not very tall with his straight shoulder-length blond hair.
Not too remarkable since that was certainly the style back then.
Look in the background on the right there is a guy with the same straight blond hair and style.
Cole here is thin, even skinny just as I remember him at that time
And the color of his shirt is purple or maroon.
I think he is partial to this color because I remember him wearing a similar colored style of short-sleeve shirt.
Here it has black short sleeves.
The shirt I remember had sleeve lengths that went only to the middle of the forearms
and was entirely maroon in color.
Bell-bottom trousers are right as I remember he wore but again that was the common style.
He is known to have worn at least one "different" eye-catching belt.
It was a friars whitish rope with knots at each end that hung down at his crotch.
He got a kick out of wearing that. I am sure it got many a conversation going.
Here it almost looks like a silver masking tape looking sort of belt.
His arms look a little too short
and his forearms don't seem wide enough
and his hands seem a little too small
but the video IS kinda poor quality.
At 0:27 when he turns to face the camera, his arm and hand look correct, much more accurate as I remember.
And his face, too: it could definitely be him.
Keith Thompson could shed some light on where Cole might have been at this time.
He might even know if Cole went to the concert.
Several of Cole's friends here in Fremont went to see Led Zeppelin locally 2 years in a row.
I remember they said the second time wasn't as good as the first. This would have been 1969 and 1970.
So Cole probably heard from them and might have had it in his mind to maybe see Led Zeppelin.
And if he was in Houston and Led Zeppelin were playing he might have gone.
Well, the Cabby detective is wrapping it up. It would be a seriously lucky flashback trip if it were him.
