Jim,
You bring up a good point. At the Hopkins show, Laurie Franklin was there and I will say there was a lot of conflicting issues with some Kersh / SW's that were on display. I highly recommend to anyone buying a Kershenbrock OR SW to send them to her, or Dave and get letters.

it has been at ed youngs shop and laurie seen it at the hopkins expo !!!

SW satin

Sw satin cues have only a single trim ring. Their regular stock no pointers have the traditional SW rings, that is how you can tell the difference.

Ok refresh me. What is a SW satin cue? I remember I read something about SW offering 2nd grade cues for sale on the market upon completion without the 6-7 year wait. Is that what everybody is refering to as a satin cue? And if so, where did the term satin come from.
Thanks,
dave

Iam the first to admit i am not a expert and if i went on to tell you a big story on what i thin (i would Be lieing) My father always said"it is better to be thought a fool ,than to open your mouth an remove all doubt!!" that is why i asked experts before i put it up as a kershenbrock thanks Bill www.cornerstonecustomcues.com

"Satin" South Wests are not 2nd grade but rather more of a very basic, plain, no frills one-shafted cue that are made from time to time when a new employee is being trained (so I was told). The term "Satin" comes from the coat of sealer on them. They do not have additional coats of finish, but, I presume they play very much like a regular South West.

I was also told by the same reliable source that there are no plans to run a batch of Satins any time soon. :( I've rarely seen one for sale on the secondary market.

Yo Chady,

I think you probably know that your cue is an exception to a typical Satin. Since yours was made at a time when there were more workers in the SW shop they might have had the time to do some custom touches when they felt like it. I understand that most of the Satins are made of maple with plain phenolic rings at joint, and without the high gloss finish. Your cue sure looks nice. Looks like a leather wrap, was this added afterwards?

Yes, the leather wrap was added afterwards.
I have seen and owned cocobolo, pau ferro, zircote, purpleheart, birdeye maple, macassar ebony, and gaboon ebony satin sw cues b4 and all of them came with traditional sw trim rings. You might be right coz All of them were made prior to 1996. ;)
