It's like agony , the more you see it progress the worse it is.

Just thought I'd share. :)

RRFireblade, it hurts more and more everyday... Just wait till you're cue is "in the mail." :cool:

My current cue was three years late (10 years instead of 7.) It was worth the wait.

Don't rush it.

I'm not sure but it may actually be worse that he's local and I can just stop by and 'check in'. Or worse even when he calls to tell me what he was just working on.

I'd never last that long. :) I woulda started my own cue business and built my own by then. :D
 
6 weeks

The 6 weeks I had to wait for mine were agony! LOL

That is why I went with a good custom cue maker that didn't take several years! I even told him to take as long as he needed! LOL

Coming from one of the most impatient people around, (ME!!) If you know the cuemaker and trust him completely, THAT in itself eases MY mind. Yeah, I don't like waiting on cues any more than I like waiting on anything else, but when you just KNOW it'll be worth the wait, trust me, it will help you! Unfortunately for me, I have sold quite a few GREAT playing cues, but mostly because I had other cues that played just as nicely, and only wanted something different. I've been told I can play with anything, and while I only believe some of what I'm told, I HAVE sold some cues I really regret selling ONLY because I wanted to try other cues...Its an old hobby of mine that most people take the wrong way. They seem to think I just talk the cue up to sell it off, but its not usually the case. I just like to try other cues from time to time, and if it takes selling one of my favorite cues to do so, then so be it! I honestly think my buying/selling cues days are coming to an abrupt end, but not because it has to end, because I WANT it to end. I'm finally getting something I've wanted for a long time now, and hopefully it'll play very well for me, so I can finally stop this nonsense of trying sooo many cues out, only to be disappointed from time to time. Sorry to hijack your thread like that, now, back on track. Who's making your cue? Do you know him, or have you used his cues before and liked them? If thats the case, have no fear, I'm sure it'll turn out just fine. Waiting IS hard, trust me I know, but when you get it, playing with it will be all the more sweeter than the time it took to build it. Good luck with your wait, Jeff :D :D :D

Sometimes good = busy. :)

I'm on about a 6 month timeline but right now at the point where it almost looks like a cue. Came a long way from picking out rough blanks from a huge rack of wood but still a ways off from chalking it up.

I know him pretty well now :) but not much before since I'm new to the area.

That's pretty much the only way I will buy (and pay for) something 'custom' , I guess I'm a little stuck up or something but to me if your not an intregal part of the design , material selection and finish process it's not really custom. ;) It's all in the picking out of the woods/grains/figuring , the over design and esthetic , the fine tuning the details/fit and finish (where applicable) that make it truly a custom cue. Otherwise you might as well be picking from options listed in a catalog.

We're/He's starting to lay out the ring work this weekend (something unique we're going to try) so I guess that brought it all back up again today.

I just want it so bad , the half dozen cues that have been through my hands in the last month or so haven't come close to getting my mind off it. :D

No problem. Chris is a good guy and I'm sure he'll make you a nice cue. Just let him take whatever time he needs.

What a wait.. Your first post was 09/2007 and it's now 06/2008.. That's the only problem with custom ordering a cue. The long wait and especially when a time is quoted and runs like 5 months late.. Appears your now in the 3 month late club. :-)

I would rather just buy one then wait a year for a custom order.. That's just me though.

Edited to add:

It's torcher to wait a year but those last 72 hours when it's in the mail.. Forget about it.. Unless it's overnighted then it's no problem to wait..

Ahhhh, cuemaker time. :D You'll have to share with us when you finally receive it. Chris does great work, I am sure it will be everything you could have hoped for and then some. A difficult thing to remember when waiting is, you just can't rush wood. :)

Yuppers , in fact , IIRC I was about 3 months in at that point.
 
I shall , don't worry.

The interesting thing is that over that period of time the design has evolved into so much more than it started out as. In some regards the wait has had it's benefits.

I am currently waiting on a custom cue from Dick Neighbors. As much as I want the cue I prefer to have it done right rather then quick. Fortunate for me Mr. Neighbors has kept me up to date and returned my phone calls.I know Mr. Neighbors has integrety and takes pride in his craft. Carl, if you read this , I hope you are hearing footsteps!

YOU GOTTA LOVE CUEMAKER TIME.... IT'S LIKE SOME OF THEM LIVE ON A DIFFERENT PLANET THAT SPINS SLOWER THAN OURS DOES. IT ALWAYS WORTH THE WAIT THOUGH.
