I'm currently looking at the F02 model viking which will end up costing around $1200. I'm starting to look at customs also but have no idea where to start. I would like the cue to look something like Titlistsuckers jerry franklin. 3rd pic down. http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=25597
All I want is a nice looking player.

Mr.p

Thanks for any response.

What are you playing with now?

Ok if you are looking for a custom cue under 2000$

you have a lot of options to look at like:

Gilbert,
Scruggs
Frey
Omen
Coker
Bender
Madden

And many others

It kinda depends on what you want too.

Strongly suggest

I would strongly suggest in that price range.

Jim Buss Custom Cues
Jacoby Custom Cues
Jerry Olivier

Not in any particular order. I have cues by all three. All are great to deal with. Expect to wait for quality though. And be specific of what you want in terms of full spliced cues or whatever. This will give the cuemaker an idea of where to start and guide you through the process.

A while ago Bushwacker had a Paul Mottey for sale for 2k. I think you can still see it in the wanted/for sale forum.

I think 2k is a really decent amout. If i were to get a cue for 2k it would be a Mottey as he make great looking, great hitting cues and his worksmanship is excellent. Or a James white, his partner.

So i think the Mottey that Bushwacker was selling should probably be a good comparison for anything you want to get. Don't settle for anything less then that.

Master Class is right... if you go to the for sale section of the forum you will get an idea of what your looking for and price range.. i believe the foresale section here is one of the best on the net.. there are alot of great cues for great prices posted all the time.. they also had a huge post about what sellers are great to deal with.. there is also a lot of good informative information about alot of things.. wether you want a production cue to a custom.. Bushwhacker is a great seller too.. he always has great cues for great prices... DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND CHECK IT OUT!!! you never know.. you may find exactly what you are looking for..

I would contact Billy Webb, the man makes some great Hitting cues that are works of art. He currently just completed some reverse spliced butterfly cues that are beyond compare. The craftsmanship in his cues and his finish are equal to anyone making cues today. Billy cues are very under valued currently and make a great investment.

I second that opinion

I'm extremely happy with my Billy Webb 6 pointer, and I've seen some of his reverse butterfly cues in progress. They're really worth looking into.

What do you expect to get for your $2,000? Playability? Collectivity? Stylish looks? What's most important to you? This will help in recommending a cue.

If you're willing to pay that money, I would strongly suggest that you scrap the idea of buying a Viking.

Raist's South West on that thread is ebony on ebony. If you want something like that, do you want it to play like an ebony-nosed cue? I can't play with an solid ebony nose.

For my money, with that type of cue, but cored (and not with South West rings), I'd consider:

Andy Gilbert
Pete Ohmann
Jim Buss

I'd also strongly consider the New England contingent:

Barry Cameron
Mike Webb

Fred

Josey

most cue for the money is Keith Josey, Josey Custom Cues 1-800-514-CUES(2837)

I would have to agree that Omen makes a very nice cue for what you're willing to pay. He'll stick with you every step of the way and make sure you're happy with your cue. He just made the one that I am showing in my avatar and I have updated pics to reflect every piece from start to finish.

If you're willing to spend $2,000, do NOT get the Viking. It just doesn'tmake much sense. You'd be better off getting something built to your specifications by a respected and reputable cuemaker. This will almost ensure that you will be satisfied.

I agree with MasterClass that Mottey can make you a great looking and playing cue that will start at $1,500. Both Paul Mottey and James White make an incredible cue that is not only near perfect in its craftsmanship, but in playability as well.

However, if it is that classic 6-point, SouthWest style that you are looking for (Similar to titlistsucker's ebony on ebony South West), than you should definitely investigate Pete Ohman's cues. Omen Custom Cues are superb playing cues. They truly are top notch! I've had several in the last few years and all played great. And over the years, Pete's work and execution has gotten a lot more precise.

And as far as that SW look, most of his cues have the style already. Somewhere along the way, Pete seemed to shift from exploriing his own design style and began making South West-looking cues (right down to the exact same ringwork). I for one would like to see Pete creating his own designs rather than the SW ones he puts out now, but there is no doubt: his cues are still great!

And you'll still have $500 or so left to spare for gambling! :D
