Want a custom cue for under $2000

Gilbert 3/8 10

When I decided to finally put the image that had been floating through my mind on paper. (My Cue) I looked into many Cuemakers. Lambros, Josey, Gilbert and a number of others. I hit with Everything I could get my hands on. When It came down to total package...........Price, Craftmanship and most importantly - Hit. Gilbert was the way I decided to go. That being said, This is only my opinion. What works for me may be your worst nightmare. My suggestion is to hit with every custom you can get your hands on, including different pins ( A 5/16-14 Gilbert hits differently then a 3/8-10)

Good luck in your search

I'm currently looking at the F02 model viking which will end up costing around $1200. I'm starting to look at customs also but have no idea where to start. I would like the cue to look something like Titlistsuckers jerry franklin. 3rd pic down. http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=25597
All I want is a nice looking player.

Thanks for any response.

$1100-$1500. Dave Kikel. Great looking & nothing hits any better.

If you're willing to spend $2,000, do NOT get the Viking. It just doesn'tmake much sense. You'd be better off getting something built to your specifications by a respected and reputable cuemaker. This will almost ensure that you will be satisfied.

I agree with MasterClass that Mottey can make you a great looking and playing cue that will start at $1,500. Both Paul Mottey and James White make an incredible cue that is not only near perfect in its craftsmanship, but in playability as well.

However, if it is that classic 6-point, SouthWest style that you are looking for (Similar to titlistsucker's ebony on ebony South West), than you should definitely investigate Pete Ohman's cues. Omen Custom Cues are superb playing cues. They truly are top notch! I've had several in the last few years and all played great. And over the years, Pete's work and execution has gotten a lot more precise.

And as far as that SW look, most of his cues have the style already. Somewhere along the way, Pete seemed to shift from exploriing his own design style and began making South West-looking cues (right down to the exact same ringwork). I for one would like to see Pete creating his own designs rather than the SW ones he puts out now, but there is no doubt: his cues are still great!

And you'll still have $500 or so left to spare for gambling! :D
You should know that even Paul Mottey went threw a phase where he made SW style cues. I have two paul motteys and i love to bits. Mine are both classic four point style. They both play fantastic and hold ther value as well. His leather wraps are outstanding.

To answer some of the question that have been posted in no particular order. I play with a scorpion, looks and playabilty would be nice and I'd probably want it cored with maple.

Any of these cue makers can make a fully custom cue for me to my exact or near my specs i.e. balance point, forearm thickness and taper?

WOW! I didn't expect this much help. Everyone's help is greatly appreciated. This thread will vastly affect my decision.

Thank you all very much!:)

as previously mentioned pete ohman makes custom cues--to your complete specifications--he is making mine and I personally have picked the pieces of wood he is using--the length of the shaft the weight, the diameter of butt and so forth, you can't get any more custom than that.

Good cue

Do you want fancy or just great?

For a plain looking great basic cue...Tad / Billy Stroud>Joss West / or Gina cue / all have a great cue for about $1500.
Many good cue makers .. take your time to pick a good cue.
