Want to improve your pool game next weekend?

Tom Simpson's NJ Intensive Pool School

We will also be teaching the SPF stroke at Pool School this weekend.

There are 3 stops/pauses...at the CB, at the end of the backswing, and at the end of the forward stroke. There are many ways to do them. We teach people how to choose what kind of stroke they want, or what works best for them. Fitting someone's stroke to their body is a skill, and an art. Each player has to find their own tempo and rhythm...we give them a starting point, and a path to follow. They still have to do the practice.

Not saying it's wrong but if you teach or want someone to pause at the back of their stroke. Aren't you teaching a forward stroke only. Seems to me and again I may be wrong but SVB seems to have a pause. To me it appears he pauses and slightly goes backwards then forward again.

I pause or at least try to. I think a lot of info happens during the pause.

As a neutral bystander with no skin in the game...I must admit after watching the beginning of this video, it's very clear that Lou pauses at the back of most of his strokes. I assume it's unintentional, but very very noticeable. ...not so much in JB's stroke.

lol, no in JB's stroke that's like a Mercedes 300 SL gull-wing.

Maybe a review of what SPF is about is in order for you? S= Set (the pause at the front with a specific purpose that you're describing).

Pool School by RandyG and Scott Lee are available for you learning pleasure.

OK, I'm game.

Now tell me the intent/purpose of the pause.

Your YouTube video when you played John shows a visible pause at the backstroke on nearly everyone of your shots. There are some (few) shots that there's arguably no pause, but no question in my view that you have a pause that would fit in the SPF definition.

The SPF instruction accentuate the Pause longer than normal for training and sending the message home the importance of the backstroke position. In normal practice, SPF users may have a shorter pause.

Your pause in the videos is often in the 1 second range.

OH MYGOD! One second!!!!!

Did you also see the little green men running around my pool cue slowing me up?

Personally, I don't care what your view is. I dan't pause --it is the normal transition between a back and forth motion. It happens. Doesn't mean squadoush.

Was there a thread specifically debating the definition of pause ?

Maybe not, but it seems like word definitions like pause and feel spark debate.

Seems odd to me to debate word definitions. Could be because I spend a lot of time with people and english is not their native language.

Normal conversations and discussions, intention and communication is more important than literal word definition.

You need to jump in the AZ "Wayback Machine" and you will find the discussions.

Any micro-second of non-movement -- between the back and forth of a normal pool stroke -- and the SPF guys will call you their bee-atch.

On game 7 where you should have gone 8 out, you visible paused on every shot except the last ball, which you missed. This should at least show the difference between pause and no pause. Some of the 7 shots you made were 1 second pause; some were closer to 1/2 second, but certainly a stopped motion that is very visible. The one you missed, there is no visible stop motion on your backstroke. The SPF guys would have a field day. You might not have missed that one if you paused.

(edit: correction, on the laptop instead of the phone, it's visible that you did pause on that last miss , but not as long as you pause on other crucial shots)

Of course they would have a field day. That's what they do and that's the problem with the SPF group. Everything is about their paradigm.

You guys have no clue.

Come on boys. Don't be shy. Tell me all about you fabled "pause."

As Smorg might have said, "Illuminate me" lol.

You paused. Admit it. You'll talk. We have ways. Inside of you is a SPF trying to get out
