Wanted: Copper 3/8-10 joint pin

Steve,

I don't know anyone with copper pins, but I've got some brass 3/8x10 (flat bottom or traditional) if that helps.

If it is a one off why don't you build one? I have done some with copper, the thing to keep in mind is that it will oxidize if left unfinished. As an inlay or joint collar you can clear over it. Are you planing on finishing over the pin?

No haven't thought that far ahead! The cue has all Copper and Ivory inlays. Was looking to match the joint and pin. May just have a few pins and a joint collar copper clad. Open to suggestions.

Do you have any black in the cue? Black anodized aluminum looks nice against copper. That is what I use.

[/LIST]2166]That's what I'm looking into now! I have a place the town over that does electroplating.

If they do chrome plating they should be able to apply the copper since a base of copper is put on before the chrome.

Dropped them off yesterday and was told 7 to 10 days. They called me today and said they were done. Don't think they came out bad. Going to try and buff out one of the shaft collars when I get home tonight. They said some type of tarnish inhibitor was also added to it.

That will be unique for sure. I believe that the plating on the pin will wear pretty quickly however if the inside of the insert is also plated.

I have to agree with Dick here. It looks cool but I guess after some tear and wear the pin would be looking like it has been used - a lot.

My Gold Crown 3 table had the "brass" / "Copper" look when new - but when I bought it (used) - almost every corner was worn down to the grey metal.

I did the same as you where the boys doing it hand brushed the correct "brushed" look - and I have not decided what to put on top of it to make it stay nice.
I guess if you put some form of clear on the pin you would be asking for trouble - but keep us updated.
It would be nice to see pics of the finished cue :wink2:

Just remember that copper is a really soft metal and color change from raw polished copper to darker is inevitable, even under the finish.

I think I am in love...

Sorry for not responding faster. I had the same concerns about the copper plating wearing off. I'm having a few copper 3/8-10 pins made up and just got a copper bar that I'm going to fabricate a copper sleeve for the joint out of. I just really want to get this cue done!

One of the cues i'm working on has a copper joint & buttcap. I was able to get the joint material from an HVAC shop locally. ID of about .696 with outer over .9. Might be something to consider.

I looked in Ace Hardware and Home Depot, Couldn't find anything close to .840. Picked up a 1" bar of copper to make my own thin wall copper joint.
