Wanted for sale again

Coos Cues
I know this has come up often but it's hard to let go the worse it gets. The average time for an item to be on page one is less than 2 hours during daylight. 7 pages deep in 24 hours. 14 pages by the time a bump is allowed. This is not only bad for sellers but also for buyers looking for something.

How hard would it be to break this up into sub forums? I mean really?

1) New Cues for sale
2) Used cues for sale
3) Cues for sale or trade
4) Non cue pool related items

We have sub forums for dead people here. How about the living?

Everyone's page one is different. You can set the forum to display 40 threads on one page, you can set it to display newest posts, or posts by author or whatever.

What exactly is the problem? Are you missing things you wanted to buy?

Then you have to do the same for cases, and pool related items, i.e. instructional, chalk, tips, etc..

I'm an impulse buyer. I don't even know I want to buy it half the time until I see it. I damn near bought your butterfly case the other day because I saw it and liked it even though I didn't need it. That's actually how about half the commerce in the world happens.

I guess I don't understand why you would bother yourself with something like having this forum and not want to improve it. I challenge anyone to explain logically how what I suggest would not be an improvement. Tommy Lee, your comment has no logic BTW it's just silly and argumentative. The idea is to break it up into bite sized chunks, not be ridiculous. And Eric you're right, it is brisk. That's my whole point.

I completely agree with you. If you look closely at your thread views. They sky rocket when in page one, lesser on page two and once your thread gets to page three the views are few and far between. The problem being you're stuck for nearly two days without being able to do anything proactive.

I definitely think we could all benefit from at least one if not two additional subcategories.

Another way to do this since people love to call used cues "new".

1. Production Cues

2. Custom Cues

3. Anything not a cue. Billiard related items, cases, etc.

A 4th subforum could be cues for sale by cuemakers or a dealer section.

Not so my friend, I could see new cues for sale or trade then used. New cases for sale or trade, then used, then miscellaneous items such as chalk and tips shapers etc all together not separate. While your idea is good unfortunately it would get abused just like the current system

I have thought about it and at one time I was on board with separate forums but on further reflection I don't like it for precisely the reason you mention, it stops impulse buys and stops the presentation to the general viewership.

I liken the for sale section to a flea market where you just walk around and browse the stuff with no order to it. It's not a department store. Classification sounds good but in fact it creates a situation where some departments have a lot of traffic and others languish. Someone might not be interested in a cue case but if Pink Case scrolls by they might think oh I should buy that for my wife I bet she would like it.....

I think you make a valid point you can't deny that it moves way too quick.

I bet we could slow it down just a bit with even just one simple distinction.

1. Cues
2. Non-cues

thinking about it, i'm not sure what the solution is. I can make a good case for leaving it as it is, and a equally strong case for change(several different cases).

What I cant do is conclude what the best solution is.

You can absolutely be proactive.

Put links to your for sale threads in your signature. Participate in lots of threads with good content so that people come to value you as a part of the community and see your for sale items.

As a custom case maker that you want to relegate to "other items" I am absolutely opposed to being shunted off to the land of accessories.

Then you have the debate about what's custom? Schon Customs, Pechauer Custom Cues?

What if I sold a "custom" cue for $550 shipped that came with a free case. The cue would be a $5 cue that I sharpie decorated and the case would be a $550 JB case?

I honestly don't see what's wrong with the forum as it is. Put your stuff up and wait. Why do you guy think that the first page is the only one that matters?

When someone logs into the forum they automatically see all the new posts and I suspect that not many people stop at the first page. But again the first page you see is not the same one that anyone else sees. What you see is reflective of your own viewing rate and settings.

We could both take screenshots of page one on the WFS forum right now and those screenshots would show different threads.

I enjoy scrolling through and seeing the fine cues and cases people have to offer and often find myself20 pages deep just "window shopping". There are times where I search a certain makers name to cut to the chase

Why does it need to be slowed down?

It's not a chat room. When I view the for sale section it's static. I browse the stuff on page one, brose the stuff on page 2 and continue until I don't feel like going on any more.

I rarely miss things because A. I see the stuff coming up over and over anyway and B. I am browsing it a lot.

It's the nature of the beast that an online marketplace with a lot of traffic is going to have a lot of stuff. Good deals favor the diligent. Those that visit infrequently know that there will be a lot of unseen stuff to wade through.

Again I am really opposed to be shunted off to the land of "other than cues". I think that if the luck of the timing places me next to Balabushka for $500 that has 20,000 views then so be it. That won't last long. I like the dynamic nature of the forum as it is.

And, there are two things a person can do to insure they never ever ever ever miss a post, subscribe to the forum and change the settings to list all new posts first.

Good god it's just simple math. If there's 200 posts a day and you divide them roughly evenly then there will be 50 in each of four sub forums. Anyone window shopping can peruse each of the four as their hearts desire and see exactly the same number of items and the exact same items. There will not be any added items to the daily total just because they are better categorized. If however someone is looking for a table or balls or case etc they don't have to look at dozens of cues that hit a ton to find them. Or if you're looking for a cue that hits a ton you don't have to see dvd's and shapers. I know this is a pool forum and organization is counter intuitive to the pool player's mind but in the real world it's a good thing. It really is.

I totally agree with you, sorry if my post did not come across as such

Or, a person can search for the items they are looking for.

Like this: Pool Table http://forums.azbilliards.com/search.php?searchid=11166774

SEARCH: KEYWORD(S): POOL, TABLE ; FORUM: WANTED/FOR SALE AND CHILD FORUMS

In a real world flea market, which the AZB marketplace is, things are not classified. This isn't craigslist, where all sporting goods are lumped in together as well anyway.

Anyway, count me in as opposed to being classified. :-) (and yes I am biased)

The average person wants to see what's current and relevant with the least possible effort. At least they should. It is to this end I make my suggestion. Why do you make everything so difficult? Seriously.

I don't see it as more difficult. Sorry I don't. From my perspective I don't want to see my cases relegated to a classification and certainly not lumped in with accessories.

For the same reason that the main forum gets all the traffic and the subforums all go super slow, people tend to go to a few spots and that's it.

I can see your point and simply don't agree with it. I don't think that the current way is bad for sellers or buyers.

We can agree to disagree and I hope it doesn't change. Of course I could be wrong and it could be great doing it your way. If so then I will be more than happy to thank you if it changes and it's indeed great.

limit the number of FS post to 1 per week. that'd knock off 3 pages of single item listings/bumps.

Just picked up sweet little Dennis Swift 1x2 for $150. On page 9. Sometimes browsing leads to good deals. :-)
