Aloha,

I'm trying to find weight bolts for one of my old cues, a McDermott C-14 that was from their 1980-84 catalog. I'm sure the same bolts were used in other series from them during the earlier days, but I'm not sure when they started using them or when they quit.

I don't know what the size of the bolt is or the thread count, but I will check it the next time I take it out. (I've attached some pictures)

I've already talked to McDermott about the bolts and they no longer use them or have any old stock.

If I can't get a lead to where I can obtain one, my next step is to take the current bolt to a machine shop and have them try to fabricate a duplicate.

I also am looking for the rubber bumpers and screws that attach to the weight bolt.

I will thank you all in advance for any assistance you may provide.

Aloha, and have a nice weekend.

The thread size is 3/8 -16 and this weight bolt style was used until early 1990 not just for C-Series. Standard weight bolts being made today arethe same thread size as the old McDermott weight bolts. The only change that must be made is that the top of the bolt must be machined to smaller diameter to fit the older Mcdermott buts.

I have some of the old bumpers and I can machine some bolts that will fit, Pm me for a price.

Hope this helps.

C and D Series Weight Bolts

I have almost a complete set from 1984 in the shop. Do you just need one to adjust your cue or interested in the full set?

I have some laying around also. If a weight bolt is not in your cue, how much do you want to add? If you have a weight bolt and want to go heavier, what's the weight of your current bolt and how much do you need to add to that one to come up with the overall weight of another longer weight bolt. I also have a few aluminum mcdermott weight bolts which will be the lightest mcdermott made. The bumpers, may have one around or check with folks who have rubber bumpers and just drill a hole in the center, they sat flat on the inside up against a shelf on the bottom of the cue.

I'm replying to your post, but will attempt to answer everyone else's responses in one explanation here. I've sent PMs to 2cool2 and manwon and was going to send them to the rest, but my PM "sent" box says "0", so I don't know if my PMs are being sent or not.

I think my current weight bolt is 1 ounce. I bought the cue new and it was ordered as a 21 ounce. I am interested in playing around with weights that would make the stick lighter, so if the price is right I may decide to get several. I would like to have at least a couple and the bumbers and bumper screws if they are available.

Please PM me if you can assist. I am willing to buy if the price is good.

The original bumpers sat flat on a shelf on the bottom of the cue, but they had the little "nipple" that fills the hollow spot between the top of the weight bolt and the shelf. The recess between the shelf is about 3/8 inch or so. (See the picture of the brochure in my initial post to see the shape of the bumper)

Now that I know that I have possible sources for my needs, I will take the cue apart and make some more accurate measurements and provide better pictures.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the number of responses that I have gotten so quickly. I will once again thank you all for your help.

I know this is an old post, but I'm having the same trouble. Guess it's been so long since they made these, that it's tough finding any place that still has any available, though I'm hopeful that an AZer can point me in the right direction.

I currently have the 2oz bolt, but would like to find lighter one, either a .5 oz or 1 oz would be great.

Feel free to PM with any help. Thanks

A friend of mine machined me one out of nylon, but I haven't tried it yet. I need to round off the head (he left it in a hexagon shape) so that it will fit down in the weight bolt hole.

I will post a picture when I get a chance.

Aloha.
