the auction ended. Here's the deal, I sold a cue on Ebay and the high bidder wants to not pay now, this after he out bidded someone else to win. He now sends me a email wanting to give me 15 or $20 to get out of the deal so he don't get neg. feedback. What would be the right thing to do here? I'd like to hear from you guys...thanks Jeff
 
email the 2nd highest bidder and see if they want it for said price:confused:

if that doesn't work you should be able to contact ebay and resolve the issue... or just give him neg feedback:grin:
 
offer the next lowest bidder a second chance offer.if they accept then take the $20 for the hassle:wink:........if not leave a negative

I recently purchased a Schon and AFTER the auction he charges me $80 for shipping because the final price wasn't what he expected and he says that ebay listing prices are too high. I ended up paying. ( From now on I email, if you can, the shipping price before bidding) Ebay purchasing/bidding is a legal and binding contract. You will have to pay fees on your sale etc, etc, I say he bid he bought make him pay because if you do decide to make him pay when he gets that news he WILL leave you neg. feedback.
 
I don't believe the seller can leave negative feedback for the buyer. The thing to do is file a non-paying bidder claim and let e-bay handle it for you. The best you can hope for is your auction fees get refunded from E-bay. They claim they will leave a non-paying strike , but I have yet to see them follow through on that claim for the deadbeat bidders I have dealt with.

In the mean time, offer the next highest bidder the item at either the selling price or their highest bid.

I don't think you can give him a neg. he can give one to you though. I would just tell him to forget it and not to worry about it. Go to the second chance bidder. That is part of selling, you don't live and die on every deal. One thing I should add, get the contact info and call him and see what's what.

Talk him into being a member here and then out him, we will roast this fool.

Actually I think I would lean towards rhyno's suggestion.
 
There is no way you can "make" him pay. Maybe something came up in his life that he can't buy the cue now. The best way, as said, is to second chance the cue to the next bidder. Put a note in the offer that the high bidder was unable to complete the transaction.
You are also able to cancel the high bidders bid, just check the box that says both of you agree to cancel the transaction. Then, you won't be charged the selling fee.

I would contact the Bidder next in line and give him a second chance offer, if he excepts he should pay whatever, his last bid was. Then I would make the guy who backed pay the difference at a minimum.

It that works good to go, if not report him to ebay, they may suspend his account and give him negative feedback.

I have reported a Bidder to ebay and paypal because paypal are the only funds I except. They locked his account on eBay, and paypal also blocked his account since it is also now owned by ebay.

I don't know if he had done this in past or if it was the first time, but unless he opened another account he will not do it again. This happened over a year ago and that account has not been used since.
 
Was the second bidder reasonable? If so, let this guy out (it won't be any good to follow through anyway) and give it to the second bid. I think they still have a second chance system. You can't leave the buyer a negative, I don't think it is allowed anymore. You could start an unpaid item case, and if he doesn't pay you he will get dinged, but he may pay and then force a refund, etc...

Best play is to let him out and try to get it to the second bidder.
 
I should have mentioned that you still want to cancel the transaction to recover your eBay commision fee. Just enter an unpaid item dispute, or state that you and the buyer "mutually agreed" to cancel the transaction. Send instructions to the buyer to accept the cancellation request and move on....
 
Depends on the fees you have to pay on eBay from selling that cue. If he is offering you more than the fee I say go for it and just re-list it.

I've had this happen before and I didn't get that offer. Instead I got the runaround and had to file a complaint with eBay so he could get negative rep and I wouldn't have to pay the fees.
 
I agree that you should ask the guy he outbid if he wants it. I've bought several items on the second chance when the winning bidder backs out. On a couple of them I would have payed the full amount that the winning bidder had bid, just because I felt I should have bid more when I lost the auction.
 
If you have communicated with the guy and he offered to pay not to get a neg he sounds sincere to me. He could have just cut of communication with you. Let it go. Got to the next bidder. But do it quickly so he doesn't spend his money on something else.

this is ridiculous.He can't add to the shipping charges that are quoted in the offering after the auction closes. I have close to 200 transactions on ebay
with a 100 % rating. The only time I had a problem is when I screwed up.
As in anything you have some responsibility to look out for deals that are fraudulent from the start but as far as I'm concerned ebay and paypal are the best way to do business on the internet.

Jeff, if I were you I would not let him off at all, most likely he will do the same thing again to someone else. Where I come from if you play you pay, or you stay away.
