anyone does that? I played a hour and a half of snooker with a friend before we played some 9 ball and I really played great, like better than my normal speed.

There was a bar in my hometown that had a bar table and a snooker table. My brother and I always played a game of snooker before playing on the bar table, had the same results as you..

Played a few games on a 6x12 snooker table before I started practicing 9 ball a week ago, and I felt like I couldn't miss. The balls were on rails, I tell you

I used to, but not anymore.

Snooker requires a different stroke than Pool, furthermore the angles are a bit different as the table is bigger and the balls are smaller. Snooker is a great practice tool, but not a good warm up tool.

But if it worked for you, than who's to tell you any different.

plus i think if you are going to be playing somebody who is a very good player, you will need to be warmed up and fine tuned on the pool table. warming up on the snooker table wont help you here. at least in my experience.

I don't think warming up on a snooker table before a pool match would help an "A" player or pro much, but a I believe it does help a "C" or "B" player. I always stopped at a poolroom with nine-footer's before I headed for the bar boxes to gamble...it's about the same thing and it worked for me. Johnnyt

There used to be a pool hall in my home town with a tight 12' snooker table. If I "warmed up" on it before playing a pool , it certainly helped in shotmaking, since the pool table everything looked like buckets. Unfortunately, my normally decent position play was out the door like I was lost.

That's been my experience, which is why I normally don't agree that snooker helps the pool game. It helps some areas, but it hurt other areas. The two really have different focuses.

That being said, I think everyone should try some snooker and 3C. Both cue games are at opposite ends of the spectrum as far as focus and desired results are concerned. Snooker is more heavily a potting game; 3C is more heavily a cueball path game. So, somewhere in between is pool, so anyone can benefit from at least getting some experience at the other games.

I love warming up on a snooker table. I also love playing banks on a snooker table - there are some lurkers out there that have seen me do this. After fighting with the smaller pockets for about 30-45 minutes, I go back to a 9 footer and the pockets seem HUGE, and I won't miss for a very long time.

It works for me.

I rarely ever do it, but everytime I warm up with Snooker before playing pool, it helps my potting immensely. So why don't I do it more often? Good question :D

it didn't alter my positional play though, maybe it just gave me confidence in my shot making...and I was playing for position too while playing snooker.

worked for me

I'd say that playing exclusively on a snooker table doesn't prepare you to play pool but I played several hours a day on a snooker table and then played for many hours on bar tables or eight and nine foot house tables. I did this for years and firmly believe that the snooker made my game much stronger.

I shot on a very old table with very deep shelves. Often a shot had to be hit perfectly and with the proper spin on the object ball when it hit an inside rail to help it in a pocket. I also banked a lot, short and long banks to improve approach angles. While the snooker table does play differently than a pool table, that level of skill carries over.

i grew up playing snooker. it really is what i first started playing...well, ok, thats not true - completely. i started playing bar rules 8-ball at a friends house and about 2 or 3 weeks into that my dad took me to the pool room in my home town that has 2 10' snooker tables and said he was going to teach me a real game. he hadn't played snooker, or pool for that matter, in almost 25 years.
i was hooked from then and i pretty much gave up 8 and 9 ball and played nothing but snooker. that carried through for a while and eventually changed into me playing 8 and 9 ball and i was unstoppable in my hometown.
i dont get to play snooker much anymore because where I go to school there is only one snooker table and its not that great but i still play on it once in a while - and where i'm at this summer theres only 2 in town and they are about 45 minutes north of where i live.

i think snooker is a good practice utility for certain aspects of the game. it will teach you to target the CENTER of the pocket with every ball and not to cheat the pockets. if you want to get a real game going, get a set of 2-1/8" (snooker size) 8-ball rack and start to play 8, 9, 10 ball on them, or straight pool or one pocket. it completely changes the dynamic of the game - its not necessarily good for your game, playing one pocket on a snooker table, but it is definately fun :D

straight pool on a snooker table is the shit though. i've won much a money that way during summers at home while in college :) ... hehe, and i'm headed back home next week ... *thinks*

alright, think i'm going to go get my game on on a 12' table tonight ... damn you guys talked me into it :P
