Here's a poll. It's private so that no one can see your answer.

What's your preference for viewing the "primary" viewing area:

1.) Zoomed in square and tight to the full table
2.) Zoomed out on an angle showing multiple tables with a larger viewing area

Note:
Please notice I said primary viewing area realizing that some streamers have multiple cameras with some level of production. So I'm asking for your preference on the default viewing area.

I don't like watching streams that primarily use the tight on the table surface view. To me, it is too boring when you just get to watch the balls and pockets. I rather watch the streams that have a little wider shot so I can see the shooter, their mechanics, and other things. However, too wide of a camera shot and there isn't enough detail and too many things going on to keep me interested in watching.
 
Ok, so your looking for the just right sweet spot.

I agree with you. I like multiple cameras with the primary view to be the widest shot. Then switch to tighter shots when needed. But always back to wide.

So I was the guy who dissed your last ban JAM or Juice poll for being public and I mentioned that 90% of polls on AZ are flawed in one way or the other.

The first response showed the flaw in this poll. Not enough choices. The option that is totally legit is one where it only shows one table but wide enough to see the player walking around and their stance as they shoot.

Hope you don't mind my honest opinion. :)
 
Yeah. I just want to be able to see the mechanics and mannerisms players have. Pool isn't too exciting when all you see is rail to rail. If I see a shot or position that I like I would also like to see how I can duplicate it and not being able to see the full stroke or mechanics of the shot take away its value to me. Some streamers like to brag about being able to see dust on the pool balls but, if I am going to spend time watching, I want to have a chance to see something that can make me better.
 
There's no correct answer. Out of the two options which do you prefer as the main view?

I won't vote in a flawed poll as it could encourage flawed camera angles.
 
If there's only one camera, I'd set it up tight and at a slight angle to overhead; pretty much like they do at Hard Times.

If I may...a rant about commentary: Please don't ramble on about nothing while a player is shooting. Save it for while they are racking the balls or other down time. It is extremely distracting.

While they are shooting, talk about the shot or keep quiet. One of the best matches ever (SVB vs. Bustamante - 10-ball) was ruined by commentators who talked about everything except what was happening at the table. Talked about their kids, their recent travels, the products they were selling and god knows what else. Completely ruined viewing the match.

Also, please balance the volume between the commentators and the table volume. They should be equal. In 95% of what I've watched the commentary volume is so high that you hear nothing of the table. If you want to hear the table, the commentary will blow off the roof.

Audio/visual production is actually quite easy compared to learning how get position with inside english. With just a little effort they could produce great results.

Why does it matter if this poll is private or public and why would you even make a statement to that effect? Like this is really a private matter for discussion.

I was busting his balls about the Jam vs Juice ban poll being public earlier. That's what guys do sometimes. We bust balls. :)
 
Count me among those who like to see the players. I learn quite a bit by watching the stance, stroke, bridge, english used. I really pay attention when it's a top player shooting.

But hey...watching streams has also taught me that there are some damned fine players living all over our great country! I've seen shortstops who I think could easily hang with the top traveling pros, but for one reason or another decide to stay home.

Square and tight sounds like it's zoomed in so close, you don't even see the players walking around the table, you just see the surface and rails. When they're not bent over you can't even tell who's who except by shirt color or something.

Zoomed out showing multiple tables is so far out you're seeing the whole table, the players, and some other tables to boot. I'm only interested in one match, not all the matches in the room.

So my answer would be, zoomed out enough to show the table, the rails, and the players if they're standing close to the table. No other tables need be in view.

I agree with that choice as well. Wide angle view should be the default.

Problem is, so many times they show the player walking around the table and getting down on the shot, then at the last minute they switch to a zoomed-in angle of the CB and the shot going in. 90% of the time when they do that you don't see the mechanics of the stroke itself. I watch a lot of streams and videos just to pick up on fundamentals, so that is always disappointing to me.

I have to agree with you on everything you stated here. On the streams I have put on, that's what I've always done too.
