Water logged millk-dud, HELP!

3 days before heading out to Valley Forge, and the frickin rain decides to go right through (albeit a cheap one) my soft case and water log my the milk-dud tip on my playing cue. The tip bubbled up in a warped dome shape leaving it completely unplayable. I've already had one person recommend I sand it down to reshape and it should be fine and dried in a couple days.

I've done the re-shaping, but is it worthwhile to even keep it? Or should I just have another milk-dud put in asap? I've got plenty of LePro duds I've made myself; just don't know if the one on my cue is salvageable. I don't want to keep it if it's going to dramatically change its playability and feel.

Any ideas?
 
For the price of a Dud, I doubt its worth the hassle of trying to find out whether its good or not. If its not good and you're going to the Expo, it wouldn't be fun to get caught in a game and find your tip is crapped.

Sounds like you install them too, just put another on.

No actually I just have a lil cheesy table clamp that's just enough to squeeze 1 or 2 tips at a time. Got tired of going through all the different tips people turn into duds. Other than that, with 3 days, work, school, etc. I won't be able to hit up my cue repair guy before going to SBE in time. If I have to change it, not many repair guys will bother going through a couple of tips being that its not 100% the first dud will be a good one.

Sigh....sux!
 
There are plenty of top notch repair booths setup at the Expo.

Joe Blackburn and Steve Lomax are one. D and D cue repair is another.

Just have it replaced when you get there.
 
RBC, thx. I'm gonna have to do that. I usually take my shafts to be conditioned by Phillipi every year. See if he helps me out. Only problem is I can't tell which one is a good dud or not. Just started making my own. Hopefully he'll have mercy if the first dud is a bust.
 
Just explain that you may be back, any repair guy will completely understand. Not only that, why would they care that they get to take your money more than once? hehe
 
PaulyB, well that's just it bro. Who wants to pay more for one tip? But I completely understand if the guys gotta do more work.

Would anyone know any good ideas for telling a good milk-dud from a failed one?

Thx buddy, I just may end up doing that. What's the difference between an elkmaster and a lepro milk dud? The lepro are medium so they make for a solid hard hitting tip. Can I expect the same from the elmaster duds?

Mine are on the med side as far as hardness. They seem to hold there shape very well & grab the cue ball quite well to. I`ll be around the SBE on Thursday so if you want any tips look me up. Thanks Jeff

No, it was just a real wet rainey day. I have a cheap vinyl butterfly soft case. You get what you pay for know what I mean? That's another thing I'm checking for at SBE. A decent soft case. If anyone knows of one, I'm all ears.

Would anyone happen to know of a tip tool that enables you to completely install your own tip yourself without the need of a lathe? I remember a place out in Jersey called PJ's that had one, I think it was a porper tool.
