If I wax my wrapless cue will the handle be too slick or gummy? I have Turtle wax.
I've never done this before.

Turtle wax for one pocket and stright pool!
Meguiars speed wax for rotation games!

Turtle wax should be fine. Q-Wax works good for me. I wax and let sit for a few hours, seems the longer they sit better the shine. Wipe with soft micro fiber towel. My cues do not get gummy or sticky.

There are many, many waxes that will do a good job and you will hear about them shortly.

-Kat,

I have used that Q-Wax for about 3 years on my oil rubbed Sneaky's CM. Works very good for me.

-Kat,

Problem!
I am going to wax it before 8 ball league tonight.
What wax do I use for 8 ball?
That's a real funny reply by the way.

If you're going to play league pool with it, I would suggest a wax that is impervious to adult beverages.

I used to play classical guitar years ago. There are some high quality polishes that are made for all wood guitars and I use them for my cues also. Just something to consider.

Measureman, I am often confused even by cuemakers responses to these waxing/polishing threads that come up on this site so often.

Based on these threads, it is apparent that a lot of regular members who have never done any woodworking/refinishing often don't understand the difference between waxing and polishing woodwork or refreshing an old finish. Cuemakers certainly know the difference.

First, since you've never done it before, why do you want to polish that cue? To make it shiny because it's getting a little dull or do you think wax will protect it more or put a smoother finish on it?

If the finish is slightly dulling from use, then wax will only temporarily restore a surface smoothness to it. It will not restore the original finish to a permanent smoothness in any way. And a cue doesn't need wax for protection the way a clear coat on a car might.

Maybe you should be looking into polishing it versus waxing it. Wax is an above surface temporary treatment for lazy homemaker people in most cases of furniture finishing.

Polishing involves no waxing, just fine particulates of specific finenesses to pemanently (or semi-permanently) restore the original lustre to the original finish.

Maybe what you may want to investigate is polishing with something like rottenstone, Novus polishes (No. #2 most likely), or a quality name brand car clear coat polish which doesn't contain wax.

In most cases with a little elbow grease, you can put a mirror finish back onto almost any modern poly/auto finish/ epoxy finish used to coat cues today or for the last 30 years.

But then, again, maybe you just want to put wax on a cue cause you can, I don't know.

I was bored and had a can of Turtle wax and just decided to do it for no specific reason. The original finish that Mr. Downey put on it is still very shiny.
Do you think a polish like NU Finish would be better then a wax?
I did try Meguiars Gold Class leather cleaner on my genuine black vinyl case and shazam did it clean and shine it.
