Wednesday Open Thread: Efren v. Jose. Who do you like?

Great matches on the stream tonight!

6:30 Dechaine vs Ouschan
Albin Ouschan is the reigning silver medalist from the world 9-ball championships, ranked #6 in the WPA world rankings. On paper, he's the favorite in this one, but I think Mike will have a very good chance here.

8:30 Earl vs Shane
Eight US Open titles in one match. Enough said. Should be fun.

10:30 Corey Deuel vs Jayson Shaw
Deuel's finesse should be an interesting match for Shaw's power. Jayson is the hot player right now, fresh off his win at Turning Stone.

Thanks, Accu-stats!

I wish Shane and Earl would not have met this soon in the event but that's how the draw fell

Hopefully JAM is around tonight so I can get a great play by play. I have league so won't be able to catch them. :( Be watching my phone though. :)

Rah, Rah, Rah, :happydance::happydance::happydance: Rah, Rah, Rah
Thought I'd try this cheer leading stuff, but I've found it's almost as
exhausting to write as it is to read. I'll leave it to the professionals !

This is what the field limit of 128 has brought us --- killer third round of the winners side matches. Personally, I like it, and everyone gets tested early and often in a small, but highly elite, field like this one.

Some very good players won't be cashing this week, but that's what makes this event so special.

This is pretty professional....if you like 'rah' humor.

I'm not sure I can do tonight's. I'm working, and I've lost enthusiasm today.

I am kind of bummed out with the comments from Facebook by people who are saying that fans of Sky's are only recent fans, that it was THEM that claimed Sky was good long ago, a year ago or more. None of us, however, our opinions don't mean squat, even if ours were made long ago. It's as if there's a fight to see who likes Sky first.

This pool world and its politics sucks. The whole campaign for the selection criteria of the 2014 Mosconi Cup was launched right here on this forum, and some of the very same people promoting it -- not all -- are slamming anybody who suggests that Sky or anybody else, for that matter, are contenders for the Mosconi Cup.

Quite depressing, to say the least. Punches the air out of my U.S. Open balloon. :(

Meh. At the end of the day, the MC is just an exhibition for tv ad revenue.

Don't let people get you down so much, Jam. There are hipsters ("we were doing it before it was cool") in every sport and genre. Best to ignore the really hardcore ones.

This is why all the talk of "Facebook is so much better than AZB" amuses me so.

I've seen just as many train wrecks on Facebook as here. Not exclusively a pool-world phenomenon, either... Of course, the Facebook thread starter has edit/ban ability, which sometimes skews the dialog.

I appreciate your reporting of the Open, JAM. Thanks

As JAM is busy, I'll try to do some reporting on the first match of the evening:

6:30 PM, Ouschan vs Dechaine
Albin Ouschan, the reigning silver medalist at the World 9-ball championships, and the #6 ranked player in the world, has to be favored slightly on paper over America's Mike Dechaine, but the game's not played on paper.

I'll start a new thread to cover the match.
