Houseman, If you read my posts I'm only suggesting that it would build a better forum if people knew to whom they were speaking. That's all. I have no hidden agenda.

But look at this; you're ready to cut off communication after you've accused me of something. Isn't that convenient to not know who you are?

Would you be so ready to accuse me of wanting everyone's personal info if I knew your full name, and you had to be responsible for what you say?

This is a good example of what I would like to see, accountability for what is said on here.

I personally don't think what I believe will get very far here, though.

I gave you my reasons for not trusting you. I have no idea what your agenda is, but I think you're obsessed with personal information that's none of your business. To address your accusation assertion - I stated my OPINION that you're trying to get people to post info that I believe is unneeded and I question why you want the info when people have explained numerus times why they would want to keep that info private. Yet you keep bringing the topic up again and again. It appears you can't grasp what I or others are saying so that's why I suggested we discontinue this back and forth.

Seriously though, we do seem to be going through a tough time here on AZB. I wish I knew why. Sure, people get bored or irritable, or we get the occasional super-troll that brings us all down. But we get over that.

What does worry me is when I see certain people say they could leave here, people I would say are valuable members. I hate to see anyone go, I think everyone has something to offer at some point. It could be a priceless piece of information or just making someone smile.

Maybe we all need a little patience.

About this "screen" names vs. real names thing going on here. There were guys I knew in pool rooms for many, many years and I never knew their real names, only their pool room name. Guys like The Iceman, California Shorty, Rush Out Red, Lotsapoppa, etc. etc. I wouldn't think of asking them to tell me their real name. Just didn't seem cool to me is all. A little too personal as well. No one else asked them either.

Until they chose to tell me their real name, I never knew it and didn't ask. This is not a condemnation of anyone. I am just relating my experience with pool player's names. I think it does relate to this topic.
 
Yeh, Jay those were typically hustlers, who didn't want their cover blown. That being a novelty of pool is fine, but being the rule I would find disturbing, and a problem pool has had since the days before Mosconi.

You don't have a problem with it is your thing. How this fits into the scope of the real world, though, is quite another. I feel that we as elder statesmen in the field have a responsibility to elevate the game to a level beyond where it has been since the early part of the 20th century.

And, even though pool has made strides in the past 20 years since the "Color of Money" came out, just read the book on Kid Delicious and you can see that the element that has given pool a bad name is still flourishing. Albeit it's an interesting element to read about and talk about it may be the very reason pool has not made it any further in tournaments, TV, etc.

So the question is, is it a good thing here to use a handle, like the pool players you mentioned, and not reveal your true identity.

You don't use one. Aren't you afraid of being violated in some way? You bring up a lot of controversial topics, isn't that a bit dicey as far as revealing who you are?

I've been in the professional billiards world for 30 years now, on all sides of it. Running a billiards supply in the late 70s, playing in any pro tourney I could play in along the way while also going to college, and then opening a billiards room in the early 90s. I've seen both sides of pool, from placing high end billiards tables in executive's homes to playing Doc White in nine ball at the old Hard Times in Costa Mesa 5 ahead for a hundred.

I can say that this underworld part of pool has not done it any good, ever, on a universal, societal level. And so why excacerbate the problem here?

Wouldn't you like to know who you're speaking with?

LOL, despite what anyone offers as good reasons NOT to use your full name online, you don't give an inch in your quest to change the posting requirements here. You want to change the face of pool ? You should start by insisting that poolplayers stay in school and learn to read and write properly, including spelling and puctuation for online poolplayers.

Make certain that there's no smoking, drinking, drug use, gambling, divorces or fights among any of the players. Then, you'd be on to something.

There are 10,000 members registered at AZB, how many have chosen not to use their full name when registering. Here's an interesting enterprise for some AZBer with good eyes and a few minutes to spare. Go to the Forum's front page http://forums.azbilliards.com/ and scroll down to the section that's titled "Total Members That Have Visited The Forums Today".

There, you will find the names of AZB members that have visited the forums since midnight (it's just about 1,030 at present). Scan across each line and count the number of people using their full names. See what percentage they represent. Those using screen names are the windmills that you are tilting at, in your effort for full disclosure.

Good luck with that,

Your not even close to being on my hit list...I enjoy most of your posts. I never wanted this thread to turn out like this. For me it's a very small percentage of the members that have big mouths hiding behind a monitor...maybe 1%. If you don't mind spending a little time and money you can find just about anyone. I use to love walking up to one of them and saying, "Could you repeat what you said on the phone or on the Internet now?" 50% almost s*** themselves, 45% stuttered a lot, and 5%...well thats what guns are for. Well, I just went and counted the names myself. I counted 51 members registered with their full names out of 1,050.
That's just a little less than 5%.

I would guesstimate that there's another 20% listed as AlexB, JoeyA., DaveK, JimS, ScottW for example that have made their last names known.

Now, if somehow, Danny K. could just force (or convince) the remaining 75% to use THEIR real full names, all would be right with the world and everyone could meet each other face to face. Not to mention how the perception of poolplayers worldwide would skyrocket. We might be invited to the palace for high tea.
