He has been seen in history books found in the Myrtle Beach, SC area. True story.

Weenie beenie

If you read just about any book by a pool player they mention him. He was a very respected man in most players eyes.

As many people as you know, I'm surprised you never heard of Bill Staton. He led quite a life. He was a Johnston City veteran. I think he won the one pocket divsion one year. He performed trick shots on the Steve Allen show. He played pool with Maime Van Doran, I think on the Johnny Carson show. I think he was also on the what's my line game show.
He, and his lovely wife Norma raised a family of three children, and had a reputation as a astute business man/gambler. He also did a lot of commentary on ACCUSTATS tapes for Pat Fleming. He owned a heavy action bar in Virginia. Jack and Jills I think. I met him late in his life, and got to be good friends with him and Norma. I stay in touch with Norma, she is such a dear. He would play pool with me when he could. He still moved pretty good in his 70s. He was a great guy to me, and fun to be around! I miss him! I have just given you a little of his life. Like I say, he got around. Hope this helps Brent. By the way, it was so good to finally meet you at the Derby! I wish I could have spent more time talking to you, and Stepo. Take care my friend... Yes it was. Bill told me once that it was open 24 hrs for years. Never closed! He said when they closed they couldn't find the keys.

Beenie not only had the heart of a lion,
(played on his own $ and would bet it up). He was a great guy too.
I always liked him.

Brent I used to watch him everyday at Gene's Pool Room in Myrtle Beach.give me a call I'll tell you about him.

Staton's prop bet in Olathe...

I only met Bill Staton once, probably in '97-99, at Shooter's in Olathe where there was a ton of action at the time. There was a tournament going on and I went to sweat some one pocket at the back table getween Grady and Joyner. I happened to sit down next to Bill and we were like instafriends. It was like sitting down next to Howard Cosell and being included into the commentary. He would usually predict where the player would leave the cueball within inches, as you will see on any of the accu-stats videos where he comments. Great guy!

Last comment interrupted by actual work!

To finish what I was saying, I think Grady had just won a few K off a kid from St. Louis.... cannot remember his name, the guy who ruputedly won 100K off a stockbroker. Anyway, I believe we watched Grady lose to Joyner for about the same amount. So during a break in the match Bill gets up and pulls out a huge bankroll big enough to cause scoliosis. So he loudly asks if anyone wants to make some money or some such talk, then procedes to put the cueball and STRIPED object ball along a rail on opposite sides of the side pocket, about 3 diamonds apart, and offers even money to make the shot. Anyone who was there may remember the result but his remarkable quality is that it was obvious he was a pretty good action showman and we all had fun watching the ensuing attempts. Yeah, the absolute best guy to sweat one pocket with, especially since I was just learning the game. I am working in Virginia now and I see his picture in poolrooms here, obviously esteemed......

Isn't that the one that Charley Duvalier and Weenie Beenie owned?
Been to many years. Nice place.
