Thanks for all the replies and well-wishes guys.

I don't know if that was an insult to my pompousness or respect for the fact that I may be about to rob some league players. You are welcome up anytime.
It was a compliment but I like it better when you take it as an insult. Here's one to make up for that one. I'm not used to complimenting you.
PLAY THIS GUY. HE CAN'T PLAY A LICK !

Since you are uprooting you family, home, and work all at once, don't put the horse before the carriage;

You need to worry about how you are going to transport your pool cues and move your table 1st!:D

Actually, I'm leaving the Diamond 9' and brand new 5 bedroom home to move into an apartment. I hate to leave, but my future awaits. I will however be transporting the cues with me.

I just got a promotion at work and will be moving to St. Louis, MO.

I would greatly appreciate meeting any AZers in the area to play, gamble, or just meet up. I am bringing my family and any direction/suggestions about the area would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe this is a little NPR, but I am interested in all things pool room and action related. I also wanted everyone to share in my good fortune.

Thanks everyone,
Daniel

Congratulations on your promotion, Daniel!

Give me a shot B 4 U visit New Orleans with the wife and maybe we can hit a few balls.

Not extremely familiar with the IL side, but I do know that edwardsville is considered a little nicer area that Granite City. If you want to stay on the MO side, Florissant and Hazelwood are the closest communities to Granite City and of course have some good areas and bad areas withing them. A little further west is Bridgeton and Maryland Heights, both part of the Pattonville School District are good areas and about a 20-35 minute commute depending on traffic.

Ok - any area that is listed in the post above, DO NOT live in. Maryland Heights, maybe but your commute to GC will not be pleasant. Your best bet is to move to the Illinois side, especially for tax purposes. But buy gas and cigarettes in Missouri, it is much cheaper. Glen Carbon, Fairview Heights, Swansea, O'Fallon Illinois, those are the areas you want to concentrate on. Not sure of your price range. PM me if you want.

Buy a Cardinal jersey, tell people that you love baseball players that may not be that great but hustle, celebrate any holiday that is on the calendar like it is your own, ask people where they went to high school, eat toasted ravioli and start drinking Bud Light. You will fit right in.

I'm happy for you!

Daniel,
If you're half as good at work as you are as a member here, you'll someday own your own company! I've always thought of you as wise beyond your years when it comes to pool. I can see some of Billy's traits in your thinking and that's a high compliment.

I wish you and your family all the best in this relocation. I also hope you'll still have time to post often here.

Be safe bud!

Since you're going to working in the Granite City area, WATCHEZ hit it right on with his list of cities to live in. I have school aged kids also and I live in O'Fallon, IL, which is only 10 minutes down the interstate from GC! Fairview Heights, Swansea, Shiloh and O'Fallon are all great places, there's also Collinsville and Edwardsville. All of the above have good schools and a college just minutes away also. O'Fallon and Edwardsville and the two best for High School and under.

The pool scene is better, much better in the Fairview Heights, Swansea area, plus you're less than 45 minutes from most pool action in the St. Louis area, and you have Travis Nicklich (Blackcreek Custom Cues), Jerry Terbrock (Terbrock Custom Cues), Jim Buss, Doug Patrick (Patrick Custom Cues), Kendall Vanover (Kendall's Custom Cues), Q Ball Cues and myself, (Zimmerman Custom Cues) ALL in less than 45 minutes from Fairview Heights, IL... how sweet is that!

If you're working in Granite City and have school aged children that will graduate from High School here, then I highly recommend O'Fallon School District (which includes some of Fairview Heights and Swansea area, Shiloh and of course O'Fallon.

I live and run pool events in this area, as well as do cue repair at some of the pool room tournaments. If you need/want more info, feel free to give me a call 9am-9pm Central Time at 618-409-4175. You seem to be a good guy and a respectable member here on AZB, as am I (been here a long time). I'll do what I can to help someone new to the area!

Best of luck and don't be a stranger,
Zim

I believe the APA is operated out of St Louis. If so he will be part owner in a week in a half. He will at least have them cutting him in on the weekly dues.
