Has anyone noticed that the co sponsor for the queens cup is a Fight Promoter / Bookie for Chickens. A cock fighter if you will... www.SabongKing.com

Things like that make me think the Olympics have to be right around the corner, right?

I copied the link from the queens cup facebook page. Its also on the press release on az and pool scene.

Cultural thing I suppose they might have wanted to have a little gander at their site before they took that sponsor.

Or well who knows maybe cock fighting & women's pool together at last Is a marketing opportunity I lack the vision to see.

Good for the Queen's Cup to garner sponsors outside of the pool & billiards industry.
If true, I see no reason for any high-brow reaction in a SabongKing relationship [probably ad hoc anyway].

SabongKing is smart to jump aboard this one, for a world female TEAM competition in any sport has the potential to attract many potential customers.

Great choice to make it a ten-ball event. Doubly great choice that "The Texas Tornado" will be representing the U.S.
She will make a great showing, I have no doubt.

I hope the tourney is a complete success. It can only be good for the entire industry. :)

This post is over 6 hours old and no-one pointed out the obvious.

It's pretty damn funny that a women's tournament is sponsored by a company involved in cocks.

Aside from that, this I hope this turns into the Mosconi Cup of women's pool. Although I have a sinking feeling that the US women will not last long.

Maybe I'm just a giant sissy but I find this kind of animal cruelty a huge turnoff.
I can see people deciding not to support this event specifically BECAUSE of SabongKing.
Especially women.

I agree that some, especially women will be put of by this. On another note, many women will say that most men think with their C@@KS You get what I mean:thumbup:
 
As long as they do not use their commercials between matches I'll stay tuned.

I personally don't think it crazy, and believe if enough or certain women find this out it may and should affect attendance/ entries.
 
Guidelines

I took a gander at wpba.com and didn't find any sponsorship guidelines also took a gander at the wpa web site and dragon promotions also no sponsorship guidelines.I would have thought that that would be something they would have addressed already atleast a note about the right to refuse applicants for sponsorship.

Interestingly in America cock fighting is a crime as it is in much of Europe. How we feel morally about it is not really my issue. Though I feel animal fighting is a repugnant sport that has no place in a civilized world.

I am not a lawyer but I believe that if you are found to be advertising illegal activity's you can be named as an accessory in the crime. Now I realize these activities are presumably not illegal in the jurisdiction where they are taking place but it is interesting.

Also I think it would be a good idea for these organizations to consider the future ramifications of allowing anyone with a dollar to sponsor their event. For instance what about groups with a overtly racist or ultra nationalist bent for instance the British National Party or the Ku Klux Klan. I am not saying that these groups are like www.SabongKing.com. I have no reason to believe that sabong king isn't a perfectly moral Cock Fighting and Book making operation where ever it is legal and moral. But what i am saying is that your sponsors say allot about your event and your values as a sport.

I can't see a happy mainstream family taking their kids to a event sponsored by a cock fighting company. I also doubt the headline Vivian Villarreal wins event sponsored by cock fighting company will go on the news feed on her web site or is a angle she would want people talking about.

Last but not least I totally only used Vivian as an example because she was mentioned before. I think Vivian rocks and I hope she kicks ass at that event....

SabongKing is looking to advance/improve their
business. Maybe what they have learned in promoting
the chickens can be used to promote the chicks, errr..
......, women in pool. If SabongKing is successful maybe
the cocks will be left behind and a whole new
opportunity for the women of pool will emerge. One can
hope.

I agree that it is cruel and very bad. I assume since the event and company are located in the Philippines, a country where it is not illegal, it is not such a big deal for the other sponsors involved. This company has garnered a lot of attention and support on FB. I am not sure how many of those people have actually gone to the site though.

I believe the event itself is great for the ladies. I hope for everyone involved that this does not turn into a marketing nightmare. I think it is the players responsibility to educate themselves about how the companies they are promoting make their money.

So I did a little further research and cock fighting is technically legal in very defined forms according to Presidential Decree No.449 of 1974 in order to preserve Philippine culture. But gambling in all forms was decreed illegal by Presidential Decree No.1602 of 1978.

Now here is where it gets interesting recently a Philippine court of appeals Justice Amelia Tolentino decided that because the internet is not specifically mentioned in the gambling ban of 1978 online casinos are not actually illegal.

But if you notice the law states in section (1) paragraph b.
Any person who shall knowingly permit any form of gambling referred to in the preceding subdivision to be carried on in inhabited or uninhabited places or any building, vessel or other means of transportation owned or controlled by him.

Both the computer the betting service and the computer of the service user exist in a place one inhabited the other probably uninhabited (a server room) since that is where the gambling takes place. I think the law clearly makes gambling online illegal and dragon promotions a accessory to this crime in the Philippines.

Thus I re-iterate wholly f-ing wow... What a bad idea to take that sponsor.

Unfortunately (in this case) it doesn't work that way.

The Canadian company listed in the registration info is "Contact Privacy Inc."
This is a special service you can employ to keep your registration info private from the public.
It costs a little extra, lots of domain registrars offer it.

It's not the address of either the actual country where the business runs,
or the actual country where the site is hosted.
If you need to contact the real owner of SabongKing, you must go through this intermediary.

Also, generally speaking websites are bound by the laws where the business operates.
Maybe if that business targets and regularly sells to american consumers,
you have a case where american law enforcement can go after them.
But otherwise, don't think US nor Canadian law can be enforced on a business that runs in the PI.
