Westinghouse Micarta on Cog shaft

Anyone used to play with Westinghouse Micarta ferrule on a Cog shaft? How it feel?
Thanks.

What you are asking, is the same as if I asked "Has anyone ever tried Ragù on their Barilla pasta?"

Everyone will have a different opinion and even less will actually have tried it before. No shaft plays the same and there are tons of westinghouse micarta out there.

How about you try it for yourself?

I like sushi and my Dad hates it... Does that mean sushi is bad? No. See what I'm getting at?

I have never played with a Cog, but I play with old Westinghouse micarta ferrules on may R Schon and love it. Once I got used to the yellow the white looks funny to me. But that is just me.

Dave, if you dont know the answer than why brow beat the guy... his question is a legit one so I will try and help him since you obviously can't,

Joe never used Westinghouse micarta for his ferrules, BUT I bet it would have a nice feel. Joe likes to use Elforyn which looks and plays very similar to Ivory. Feels very nice... You might want to contact Joe if you have some of the material and see if he'll install it on a shaft for you....

I have played with Westinghouse Micarta and I have played with a Cognoscenti cue. I have never played with them combined, so I can't say a damn thing about how it feels, like the OP wants to know. Judging by your reply, you have never played with them combined either. So, rather than being like the rest of AzB and give the guy a buttered up answer to a silly question, I told him the cold hard truth.

His question is a legit question? Here's a legit question: Can you make a shoe smell?

this is exaclty...

why AZ is NOT the same kinda place it used to be. everyone is so freaking confrontational. Neither of your posts were in the least bit helpful but it sure didn't keep you from hitting the submit button. If the question is so offending, why not just ignore the thread and MOVE ON!

To the OP: while I haven't played the exact configuration you're talking about, I really like the feel (and look) of the "old" micarta ferrules. If you've tried one and like the way they play I say go for it.

Mine was very helpful.. I know how Joes cues play as I have played with them for 20 years, worked with him and his cue designs, AND am one of Joes closest friends. I also have played with many and own cues with the old Micarta.

Now, put Joes cues which already hit phenomenal and a material that is known to feel good and you have a win win...

OP, if you want it done pm me and I will talk to Joe...

Have not used that set up on a Cog but I did install one of those ferrules on a nice playing full splice with a solid maple shaft and it plays well but it took a bit of getting used to from the Ivor-X ferrule that was on there.

Indeed...

Yes your message was helpful. I was responding to Dave's comments. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

just to stay on topic, I have a Darrin Hill fullsplice with micarta ferrules. really nice hit. But like anything else, it's probably not for everyone.

No idea how it plays on a Cog, but I love the sound of it with a Wizard M tip on my Schon. It is perfection to me. Anybody who has any original yellow micarta available please contact me. THx

Thanks for all comments.
I have tried Westinghouse Micarta on my playing Pechauer cue. But, I'd like to take experimental on my Cog with it. That's fine. I'll try by myself and post the review.

I have a Bob Weir box cue with yellow Micarta shafts and joint (FF style like the Cog).
It hits out of this world...every time I play with the cue I marvel about it and whether or not it is Weir's taper changes to the original Adam or if it is the Micarta he added.

Sorry, 5/15x18 thread so no way to try one of the shafts on my Cog.

Joe Gold's cues hit great to begin with and I have never hit with a micarta shaft I didn't like. I suspect it would be a deadly combination. Where's Wincardona when we need him? I'll be selling my Weir cue at the SBE in April. If you make the show, you're welcome to come buy and hit some balls with it yourself.

Joe is a very accommodating cue maker unless you ask him to do something stupid. He'll take a brief moment to explain his feelings and move on. He's not a fan of layered tips and his stock tip is the tried and true Triangle tip. So if you get the micarta ferrule go with the Triangle and you'll have the closest thing to his standard ferrule/tip set up. He does some ferrules in ivory but his go to is Elforyn which was mentioned earlier.

I have used Westinghouse Micarta ferrelled cues and I found them the "hardest" hitting.

I prefer ivory and that is my usual so compared to ivory I would suggest it will provide a hard hit.

JMO, I wish you the best of rolls,

Ken

I would agree with this. I've had an older Scruggs and even older Palmer with Micarta ferrules. Very nice, but a little more firm and. crisp than ivory, ivorine, melamine, or juma. I think it's also a bit harder than aegis, but that's closer. Don't forget, some of it depends on other factors, shaft taper and density, and whether there's a rubber bumper or not. Hope that helps.

Hi all,
I made shots test. The hit is firm looks same as default elforyn material. But as applying English, the deflection is not much as elforyn. IMO, it's better a little.
Thanks.
