Westinghouse Micarta

In the seller's other listings he refers to the same material as "WESTINGHOUSE LINEN MICARTA 1990's BLEACHED LINEN."

While it does have the antique look, the old stuff many are looking for is generally known to be paper-based.

Thanks Dan....... the above bolded text is the part I couldn't remember.

I read DZ cues write up on the old Westinghouse Micarta and he states that it was linen based (http://www.dzcues.com/ferrules-3.html). Hopefully more people can chime in with opinions.

Just searching for clarity.

If you re-read a bit more carefully you too will see he said MASON's new
Micarta is linen based. The original material was not linen based and not
rolled tube.

FWIW - the MasonMaterial bears almost no resemblance to original Micarta,
other than it is yellow-ish.

Just to make things even more fun - Westinghouse made many products
called Micarta, some of which were white, some of which "aged" over time.
Many were used for ferrules when the original material could no longer be
obtained.

There are plenty of players who are enamored with one or more of the various versions.

Quoted for truth.

Bad Luck!

Is this the same Westinghouse Micarta that everyone is always looking for to make ferrules out of ??? I am not looking to buy it, I am ONLY asking for my own educational purposes.

It looks like the seller has duck call customers. Could you imagine the luck of using a true micarta (made with asbestos) for a duck call in today's time. Yeah, I know that the asbestos must become airborne before it is a danger. But, over the years of use and all that rubbing some of it would have to be exposed.

The old micarta

.
this is the only picture I have of the old micarta

I hope this helps a little,
