Wet Chalk.... Any Observations?

I played in a nine ball tourney last weekend. I emerged victorious. However, in the first rack of the finals I had two very uncharacteristic miscues. I am not claiming to be a pro quality player, but the miscues really surprised me. That type of problem just doesn't happen for me. I first examined the tip of my cue and everything looked good except for the consistency of the chalk. The chalk looked like it was glued together. I then looked at the chalk and it was clearly wet. I searched the room for an exceptible cube and resumed the match. I don't know whether or not someone was trying to screw me. I hate to think the worst about people. Am I thinking too much? Has anyone had this experience? If not look out. Its an effective way to take someone off their game, especially if you are shooting a shot that is a long way from center.

"Spitting in the Chalk" has been around for the 50 years I've played. It is intended to cause you problems.
 
I know that pocket chalkers are considered "uncool" by many. But you know? Nobody has spit in my chalk since I started using one...

Which chalk would you use to chalk your cue? the new one or the old half-warn out one. Take those worn chalks home use a hand saw or hack saw blade and cut the old one in half horizonally That chalk that has been around absorbing moisture will stick about 5 times better then the dry new one. i LIKE THE CHALKER IDEA BUT DO YOUR SELF A FAVOR AND BUY USE BLUE DIAMOND BILLIARDS CHALK!
 
Damp chalk is a drag. During the summer months, I keep a few pieces of chalk in a ziplock baggie in my case. It keeps out the humidity.
 
I had that same experience this morning at the Jointed Cue in Sacramento ... It was raining (since early a.m.) and I noticed the Chalk was "damp" from the humidity, so I broke out my trusty Pocket Chalker and proceeded to play some serious 9-Ball without a mis-cue ...

Wet chalk is an issue in south Louisiana as it is in Houston. My chalk cost seventeen cents a cube when I bought a gross. I dry it in an oven and ziplock it. Then I put four cubes at a time in a tiny plastic box in my case. Sometimes I wrap them in green or yellow electrical tape and I'll eventually get some labels printed to advertise my business so when I leave those seventeen cent pieces of chalk behind I'll be promoting my business. I can write it off as a tax loss if I really want to nit pick and nobody has ever been inclined to mess with my personal chalk.

Few will even pick it up with it laying on the table and when I leave a piece behind on a table in a fair sized tournament, often someone makes the effort to return it to me. I deliberately leave it behind after it is slightly used and both room owners and visitors notice that I have been there. If I leave behind two pieces every time I play it is still less than fifty cents. Works for me.

I always carry my own chalk in my pocket. I get some nice worn spots in my jeans but I can live with that. I think it comes from my snooker days, I like my chalk to be at hand, not have to look round the table to find it.

Besides, if the chalk is in my pocket & it gets wet then I have a more worrying problem!:D
