What’s the diameter of your Butt?? 😏

On a 29 inch butt .840 to 1.25 was pretty much standard. I have never measured one but today's cues as I see on tv look thinner. I played with Steve Miz's cue and as big as he was it had a pretty slim butt.

get folks to post what cue the have and what the butt diameter is for that cue. Kind of building a data base.

AZers data below is from this link for an AZ post.

Anton's Ukrainian _________ 28.9 mm or 1.14"
Viking skinny ______________ 30.6
Newer Predator ___________ 31.2
Newer Predator ___________ 31.4
Pure X_____________________ 31.3
Cuetec _____________________31.7 or 1.25"
Falcon ______________________32.0
2010 Predator _____________32.6
Brunswick __________________32.7
Mali _______________________ 32.8
Meucci BMC _______________32.8
Viking ______________________33
Briggs (100-year old) ______35.3
Brunswick Master Stroke __36.8
WHP 22 ounce ____________37.5 or 1.48"

I have a 22oz WHP with natural veneers and a Rambow ring, the butt is 37.5

My Brunswick Masterstroke I have, maxed out at 36.77 mm. and Bmc meucci I got is: 32.82 mm

Anton's Ukrainian cue at 28.9mm & a 100-year old Briggs one-piece cue at 18 ounces: 35.3mm

My 2010 Predator is much more bell shaped and both of my newer Preds are slimmer.
1.285" vs 1.230" and 1.235" at the fattest point on each.

My Rick Howard is 1.27 & .84 joint
McDermott E-B5 is 1.29 & .85
McDermott D-4 is 1.28 & .85.5
Those are the only cues I own now.
(I am looking for a beater Sneaky for the "more lively"
joints here In Birmingham and down on the river).

Meucci Original... 33.1mm 1.3
Blackcreek...32.1mm 1.26
76 Richard Black ...31.48mm 1.24
Huebler Custom Shop 94... 31.28mm 1.23
Weir 1986...32.1mm 1.26

McDermott D-20 (30 in length): 1 9/32 inch (~32.5 mm)
McDermott E-F3: 1 9/32 inch (~32.5 mm)
Pechauer: 1.25 inch (31.75 mm)
Joss 2055 (current player): 1.25 inch (31.75 mm)

Interesting how much difference 1/32 of an inch can make. My D-20 definitely feels thicker in my hand than the others.

What's the butt diameter of a JFlowers Legends cue? I emailed JFlowers two months ago on this but no response.

I

Some are fat as a baseball bat,
Uh oh 🤷‍♂️ Baseball bats come in different dimensions. A Roger Maris or Mickey Mantle had a very slender grip as it facilitates the quick flip of the wrists plus the weight was closer to the very end(like a golf club). For hitting the long ball. A Nelly Fox or Jackie Robinson had a very fat handle to facilitate protecting the plate.. More meat further down allowed a base hit even when the pitch was in on the hands. My favorite was Jackie Robinson in 36 inch length. Choked up to 32 gave me a home plate protector. Well I was a lead off hitter. Base hit was my mission. When I was the clean up hitter batting 3rd or 4th I chose a Mickey Mantle 32 with the little finger around the knobs on the end. With it I was swinging for the long ball. 🤷‍♂️ I was a good hitter. Shrug 🤷‍♂️ Hitting the wheel in competition was my greatest accomplishment. In 4 at bats a single, double, triple and a home run.....oh that was fun.

I prefer a smaller grip on my pool cue. Thinking of it as a delicate instrument. A fat grip made it feel more like a club than an instrument. My break cue is thicker and would serve well as a club (in a bar fight). 🤷‍♂️

Scruggs is 1.2 which was ordered specifically to be thin, and several Freys which are also 1.2 as Bob liked the idea of thinner than standard butts.

My cues have various diameters at the thickest point on the butt (sometimes it's not right at the end).
At the moment, the cue I feel most comfortable with has a diameter of 31.5mm.
Although thickness does make a difference, in my opinion, the weight and balance point are more important.es

1.240" / 31.5mm that seems to be what most players like these days. If you want 1.250" I'll do that too. I don't make skinnier cues that 1.240" though.

Man i remember back in the mid 90's when i went to Steepleton's in Lexington Ky. They had a nice glass display with Meucci's. I wanted the 95-14 so bad but just didnt have the extra money. I always looked at that cue everytime i went in. Yep the Meucci original is the ST4 Hi Run. Big Butt and small joint. 1.3 but with a .820 joint. Hits great and straight as an arrow.
