What are good 3-person games?

Surprised no one has said a ring game of 9 ball

BmoreMoney mentioned it. If the three players are pretty good, then the ring game is my favorite.

For a party to get people to socialize around the table, cut throat is great. I have played using all of the rules variations suggested above (not at the same time). The additional rules we followed are that the order in which players are knocked out determines their group in the next game (first out becomes 11-15, second out becomes 6-10, and winner breaks and gets 1-5). Also, we played that you can sink balls from your group and keep playing. That even allows you to sink the last ball in your group as long as you run out.

Golf is also a good game for 3 or more players.

I don't know the details because I don't play with them, but sometimes the guys at our center will play snooker three handed, where at some point (presumably when the 3rd player is mathematically eliminated) the bottom player is dropped and the game ends with just the 2 leaders playing it out.

Play Target Pool

Try 3 ball or 4 ball.......one ties all tie.........play 25 cents or 50 cents per game.......it's fast and fun.
We do this with 5-6 guys and at 50 cents or $1.00 game, the money adds up fast and your losses are not that large and the pace of play is fast.

"Around the World" works well with any number of players. Not a well known game outside of of a small area of the northeast. One of our players is originally from that area and we have been playing it occasionally. Basically you must make a specific ball usually the 1 in each pocket starting from the lower right, then lower left continuing around to the right side pocket. Call shot game starting with a full rack, make a ball on the break you keep shooting the ball stays down, 1 is placed in the same spot as an 8 ball would be in that game. Some unusual shots do come up so it is some different than the usual rotation games. No penalty for scratches all scratch shots are from the kitchen.

After watching it in action, and yes I know the tables aren't easily found, but I'd imagine three cushion would make the perfect 3 person game. One ball for each player and the rules basically apply the same.

Cutthroat is fun. Haven't played it in a while but poker pool is fun too

Me and some people play cut throat, but you shoot your set off of the white ball and into the pockets. Combos alowed also.

We called that reverse Cut Throat.
Shoot your own balls in.
The highest in each group ( 5 10 15) were treated like an 8-ball and had to be shot last.
