Generally I don't think people like them.

They don't like the 'idea' for the raffle ,
They don't like never being 100% sure the winner was the winner ,
They don't like all the waiting and postering while entrants are locked in ,
And they don't like seeing someone make 'too' much money on a sale no matter how good a deal it was for the winner. :)

IMO.

It all depends - a few factors

JMHO - Raffles only work for a few reasons - since some have worked her, and some have not.

1. Main thing - The cue needs to be a WANTED cue!! Something people drool over, and many on here cannot buy for full asking price - or even half the asking price.

2. The person raffling the cue has to be seen as an honest seller, and keep everything on the up & up, by posting names/numbers, and rules for ALL to see, and give 24hrs notice once the raffle is happening - the numbers pull. The powerball with 14 players and 3 numbers each seems to be a good model - Snowmon34's 1st Olney, GMcole's Sugartree, and coming soon - Snowmon's 2nd Olney.

3. The price of admission - needs to be worth winning the cue, and losing it if you do not. $100 on any cue will not work, and even $25 will not work on most cues - The total raffle ticket sum MUST be close to value of cue, while not charging the other 13 LOSERS too much to take a chance.

With these 3 things in mind, I believe a raffle will fill with the needed players, and tickets will sell. It is all a risk/gamble - but if the only risk is whether your number is pulled, and not anything else - It is fun.
Great wa yfor the seller to sell a cue, and one person to get a great(but lucky) deal.
I was in the Sugartree raffle - one number off, but would do it again, if the right cue came along, with good pricing, and a good seller.

I thought individual raffles or drawings were illegal. In Texas it's illegal to have a raffle or drawing for your car. Not sure how it applies here though.

Agreed

I agree, it's all about having the right cue, and the right seller. Snowmon34 & GMcole are perfect examples of how successful a raffle can be. I also think that many of ticket buyers are people that enjoy the "action", and an honest raffle on a great cue is good action.

Buy the Cue

I am sure they work ok as we have seen, but for me, I would rather just purchase a cue than put out between $50-$100 for a chance at getting a cue.
