What brand of Cushions should I use.

I have a 1923 Brunswick Balke Collendar 4 ½ x 9 table with 860 Simonis.

It has triple shim’s, I want the rails extended with only one shim.

I want to replace the original cushions.

What type of rubber should I use?

How do they replace the cushions, by hand or do they use a jig?
Next who do you recommend to do my table?

Sang Lee was the last person that worked on my table.
He stretched the cloth so tight, I thought he was going to tear it.

I have a 1906 BBC Wellington with 860 green and Brunswick SuperSpeed rubber and love it. Great action off the rails.

I recommend Artemis rubber also, I think it's the best.
But you may have trouble getting the right (profile)? for
a Brunswick.
I would suggest contacting Ernesto Dominguez, have him
look at the table and do the ordering.
 
This is a much more difficult question to answer than meets the eye. You may want to consider the type of cushions you play on regularly, that is if you play away from home.

On old tables such as your BBC the sub rails may need to be replaced. And in the case that your table was a converted billiard table it may take more work to get the height of the rails and the rail nose properly.

How do I know? Because I had a Brunswick dealer screw my 100 year old Brunswick table up. Then I sent my rails to a so called expert in Washington to fix and refix and still had a hack job with over $2000 invested.

My suggeston is to post this in the Talk To A Mechanic section of this forum and hope that Glen the REAL KING COBRA gives you some advice. There are many factors to consider if you want this DONE RIGHT. No one an give you a complete answer with the information you have given.
 
Realkingcobra or Ernesto. I have seen both their work, and they are the best. It really is worth it to get this right. From there you become spoiled and you don't want to leave the house. I followed that up with a 9ft. Diamond light and People come from out of town to play. Take your time and good luck:)

I don't know if Donny (SDBillards on here) goes up that far but if he does you couldn't do any better than him; his sub-rail extensions are stellar. You might contact the CBC and see who does their work - it might be Ernesto, I know he travels up to Sacramento occasionally.

I am leaning towards Artemis.
I am concerned that the ball height of the cushions, with Artemis might be a problem?

Brunswick used jigs to install the cushions.
I have never seen a mechanic in the SF Bay Area use jigs, they do it by hand.
Close inspection of their work, shows waves in the cushion height.

I am the second owner.
The Pratt family (Pratt & Whitney jet engines) in Atherton were the original owners purchased in 1923.
When I bought it the table was brand new. They never used it.
Including original mud balls and original Brunswick Balke Collender sticks and Bridge.
It was a Original 4 1/2 x 9 pocket table with ball returns and 1 1/4 inch slate.

I have talked to Ernesto over the last 15 years and he has said that he would do it, but he never has time.
He does the California Billiard Club tables and Hardtime Sacramento as well as other pool rooms in the Bay Area.
He is in such a demand here in Northern California it is hard for him to come up and do a table at a persons home.
 
Diamond black cushions ,, they bounce great ,,there typically $115 for a set of 6,, But if you call "Diamond" and order them there about $75,, great product for a great price..........
 
I, too, had bad luck with recent Superspeeds. Same thing, approx 2 years and they were getting hard spots. They are made in China these days.

Artemis, if avail in the right profile for your table, is the way to go. They play beautiful, are made to a high standard in Germany, and I expect they are going to last a long time, as they should.

I am inclined to agree. I have played a lotta pool on tables done by Scruffy1 that had subrails extended w/ the Diamond Blacks and they play great.
 
Why not accu fast,they have the same specs as the k66,an come with a life time warranty.
Or just go with Artimis k66..neither are that expensive,as other have explained,make
sure their installed correctly,but I'm sure you'll be on top of it.

Negative BB. The same ones you had on it. They seemed perfectly new to me :). I was just submitting that they played well.

She is together and playing great! Haven't finished the "finish" yet which is why I haven't mailed you a picture :)

Not to hijack the thread but what do you guys think of Masterspeed cushions?

I just dropped off my rails to have them re-cushioned and they plan on using Masterspeed K66 cushions.

None of the modern cushion profiles will match your subrails. I have a 1947 Centennial with Artimis K55's installed by Mark Gregory (perfectpocketz on here). He performed great work on my subrails to make it work.

Post this in the Mechanics section. One of the guys will give you a quote. I believe you have someone locally to do it. If not, send them to Mark.
