What color set of pool balls is best?

What do you think most people think is the best color set that allows one to easily see the differences between balls? Have manufacturers come up with anything better? If the light isn't great, sometimes it is hard to tell for sure.

And have any of you seen that a good light above a table solves this? Maybe it's an aging thing, lol.

Traditional colors are fine. If you can't see them then you may need glasses or you're color-blind. All these goofy tv balls are a joke. My $.02 here, nothing more.
 
Think there is a lot of personal preference on this. I personally like the sets that are
1: yellow
2: blue
3: red
4: pink
5: orange
6: green
7: light blue

Think it like picking a New Car, go with what rocks your boat. Some people like traditional, other like NFL Team Balls set. The people who manufacture Ball Set, offer many options. Choose what you personally like, as your paying for em.
 
If your games are televised you should gonwith the funky TV / Skittles / pastel balls, otherwise the traditional colors are fine (and arguably better).

A regular set. Also, the more common, the more likely the balls are better Quality. Specialized runs of can anything be risky. Thus why It’s hard to beat a Toyota Corolla for quality In cars and can’t beat standard Aramiths In billiard balls.

Bigger issue is cloth colour. I haven’t played on a lot of colours but know to avoid red, black, and brown ( tan is ok).
 
I'm colorblind and have a much harder time than non-coloblind people distinguishing the colors.

The absolute worst set ever made for colors IMO is the Cyclop TV set. Its a 1 out of 10. Arimith Super Pro TV set is a 4 out of 10. Brunswick Centenrials normal colors (rarely seen on TV anymore) are a 6 out of 10. Aramith Tournament Duramith TV set (not the new black ones) are a 6 out of 10.

Funny that no matter what color combination is devised for pool, there seems to be opinions the colors are difficult to distinguish on TV or wherever. Meanwhile Snooker never seems to this problem. Maybe it’s the nature of pool balls with the numbers and stripes that make it a challenge for cameras to ‘see’ them clearly from a distance. Or maybe it’s the fact that pool sets have one extra color compared to Snooker, so you’re always going to get two colors that look similar. I can’t say any Snooker colors look the same, never get the reds and pink confused, nor the blue and green, they’re all easily distinguishable.

Love them or hate them, I think the closest anyone has come to making a set where the colors are clear on a monitor is the Aramith ‘Black’ set.

More light is usually better but I usually can't tell the pink/4 orange/5 apart in the TV sets on TV. It may depend on the broadcast system. And now that we have color reassignments apparently done by interior decorators or random monkeys, I need a card to identify the players. Why did they make the 8 ball mauve?

It is reported that Mark James Williams, MBE, cannot distinguish the brown from the reds which can become problematic especially when the brown is off of it's spot. However, as far as I know, this is an isolated example with not many difficulties encountered as he is a 3x Champion of the World and Triple Crown winner.

I agree the snooker balls are great on the telly and the commentators do a good job of describing which reds are in play or potentially problematic by describing their position as "directly above and to the right of the black", "on the right side cushion near the middle", etc. - even without them having numbers.

For pool balls, I have to agree with iusedtoberich's overall assessment a couple of posts before me. I don't even like to watch any rotation games using the Cyclop TV set. But I will on occasion.

Brown and red are easy to confuse depending on the lighting and color sensitivity of the viewer. But snooker has the huge advantage of usually having the colors in their proper locations.

In being able to distinguish the colors clearly and as distinct and recognizable from one another, I guess we should clarify here, are you talking about what set is best for viewing online or on the telly? Or which set is best for in-person play?

My only thought is that pink 4 balls should be outlawed lol. I hate them. How did Aramith make a neat looking set like the black then make a pink 4 and a purple 5? So stupid. I know it's their branding having a pink 4, but they literally could have switched the 4 and 5 and had a really cool set that was more traditional, easy to distinguish on screen, and unique with the black stripes.

Personally I like the new predators. If I get another set of balls, it's probably going to be them, or possibly the dynaspheres titanium. I'm kind of a sucker for novelty balls. I have a set of hyperions and I love them. The 6 and 7 take a bit to remember the colors, but they are a good set of balls. Honestly once you can remember the 7 is that teal color, the balls are very easy on the eyes and easy to distinguish the colors.
