What cue case do you carry?

I am interested in upgrading to a modern type case. My 30 year old suitcase type case just seems out of place. I see every one with these beautiful tube type cases by JB, Justis, etc... I would want a 2 x 4 or 3 x 5. Price wise would be $200 - $500 tops.

So, what do you carry, and are you happy with it? I am not trying to start a flame war here, so please keep it as friendly as possible! ;)

I carry several different cases depending on my mood, some of which I have made, some of which are box cases....which I really dig along with Fellini type tube cases.

But....your case seems"out of place" now? After 30 years you want to conform to the crowd?

What make of case is it? Is it for sale? Seriously.

The answer is, a cheap one. For the same reason that I carry a cheap briefcase: I don't want it stolen.

Like one of the responders here, the case I carry varies with where I am going and what I am doing, but my staple case is a Joe Porper 1x1, and it has been great for the protection of the cue.

I learned the following trick from watching Wade Crane. At tournaments everyone else would show up with 2x4's and even larger cases made of heavy leather with large pouches and straps. They lugged them through restaurants and lobbies and onto elevators and had to balance them somewhere when they weren't in action. Wade always came with a very thin 1x1 case. He didn't have to lug a big heavy thing around with him. I keep an extra shaft in the trunk of my car in case I might lose a tip during a session, but that has actually never happened.

I do tempt fate at the race track. I have a very nice 5" x 8" portfolio I carry that positively screams, "Steal me! Steal me!" My friends joke about it and have thought about having an over-and-under on how many months I will keep it. So far so good.

Whitten Custom

I had a custom designed 2x4 Whitten Lite case made, that I really like.

Before that I had a Justis 2x4 that was so nice, I just couldn't bring myself to use it. It was suede leather, extra tooling, and Python inserts. I sold it, then got a used 3x5 Instroke, it was good, but it was just too heavy to carry around all day. I sold that, and ordered the Whitten. Much lighter than the Instroke. Great customer service, and a very well made product.

I have an Instroke 2x4 that looks 99% as good as the day I got it about 5 1/2 years ago. It's been used and taken care of, but I don't baby it. I don't worry about cue protection with it at all... It's good enough for the rigors I put it through. If I replace it for any reason, it will be replaced with a JB case.

I carry a JB protoype I bought a couple of years ago, 3 x 6. Have a Dennis Swift 2 x 4 in the closet that was my dad's. It's pretty, but it's too heavy for my liking.

Okay, as promised, a couple of pics. I bought the case and the Huebler in the early 80's. This cue has seen countless thousands of hours of play, and I still love it! The case has no manufacturers marks I can find, but it is a nice quality. And BTW, it is NOT that I am trying to conform to others likes, like another poster said. I just know that for me, some new gear ALWAYS gives me new inspiration!

Looks like

it is in good shape, but you are right upgrading your equipment every 10 years or so does give you some inspiration, plus you get all the new technology along with it.

When I buy a case, I need good spacious pockets on it. Plus I do not want it to be heavy, that's why I pretty much stick with vinyl cases rather than leather. I take care of my stuff, and do not abuse it in any way, so it lasts me a long time.

BTW, I shot with Huebler cues for about 30 years.

Good luck with your search ...

For years a carried a 2x4 95' Justis in White and Brown... Smaller version of Efren's case....

Just upgraded to a JB 3x4 Time III...

Murnak,Buffalo instroke, old palmer premier, old Brunswick square tubes, garcia, felini, Predator leather,it's george... depending on where I'm going and playing or what cues are going along. Hope to replace my last justis, whitten and thomas cases- some things are just hard to be without for long!

I use a JB Mason Case for my daily case. The leather is thick and the quality is extremely high.
I personally love the case because:
1. It's rather light for a 3x6
2. Leather quality and fit and finish is top notched
3. Worth the price for the protection and quality you get.
4. Very good looking case

4x8 Whitten

Joe made it for me. My wife gave it to me for my birthday. It stands up by itself. I don't have to lean it against anything. Its lighter than a Predator 2x4 that I just bought. The only thing I have to remember is to keep the lid closed when my cues aren't in it. Some girl spilled some water on a table it was sitting next to. I thought it was beer. Kind of freaked me out. That's why I bought the Predator. Its a lot cheaper case for when I go to places where they have no respect for other people's equipment.

Another vote for JB rugged cases

I use a customized JB rugged series nylon case, either a 3x6 or a 4x8. Usually the 3x6 as it's the same size as most 2x4 cases. They're both fairly light when loaded up, are very strong cases that have great cue protection and plenty of storage. I even occasionally over stuff the 3x6 by putting an extra cue butt in the shaft compartment and the protective inside always bounces back to hold the 3x6 configuration tightly again. Usually bounces back overnight. These cases have the ultra-pad interior. Not sure if JB condones such a use for these but it sure worked for me.

Good shooting to you,

Kevin

Brown Jack justis 2x4 with diamond inlays on both pockets and extra tooling all around. I love that case. My Richard black player and my varney break cue match the case beautifully. My next purchase will be a nice tuxedo cue, black break cue and a black and white justis to match them.

It's an O'neil Deluxe case.

I have an 80/81 Huebler as well. Next to my 70's JOSS it's my favorite.
