Is there a best joint? Quick release? Uni-Loc? Flat Faced? Pilot? 3/8 or 5/16? Peachauer speed joint?

Whats the difference between a regular pin and a radial pin?

I tried researching but I couldn't find much without digging through the whole library of posts. I figured I would just start a new one. Thanks.

The best joint configuration is the one that works best for YOU! You need to try different setups and see what feels best to you. It's all subjective.

I know feel is all subjective, but like how do they all feel different? I have tried a a few of them and really I don't know if I could tell you by what joint was on a cue by feel until I took it apart.
I feel that how the shaft is contributes more to the feel of the cue than anyother component. I am asking more for having a custom made, just ideas about joint configurations and what you guys like.

It's not just feel... More importantly, different types of joints will make shafts play a LOT differently. Play with a piloted 5/16-14 joint w/ a 314 shaft, for instance, and then play with a flat faced radial pin joint with a 314 shaft, and they'll play very differently. With the bigger pin, you'll get significantly more deflection. I know this from personal experience. Play with OB-1 shafts mostly now, but I played with pre-cat 314's for years on a Schon - piloted 5/16-14 - then had a $3500 custom Capone made. Flat faced radial pin. Matched 314's included. Great cue/great work. Felt great. Performed vastly different. Wound up getting rid of it because I just couldn't play with it & didn't care to go thru the re-learning phase. Just went back to the joint that works for me. Too many fish in the sea - too little time.

the majorty of your playability comes from tip then shaft quality/ and mostly taper!!!! if the joint is seated 100% there is minimal diff between pins. at least what is a big enough diff to tell. i know this will be throwing gas on a fire but my info comes from some of thee worlds best cuemakers
